Indianapolis Colts vs. San Diego Chargers NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 21, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Indianapolis Colts look like they are starting to catch their stride, as they have now won 3 straight and secured 2nd place in the AFC South at 6-4. This week the Colts have to travel to take on the San Diego Chargers, where a season of such high hopes is starting to look more and more like its going to be one not to remember. At 4-6 the Chargers are two games behind the Broncos in the AFC West, and falling 3 games back with just 5 to play would make the playoffs very unlikely for this team. If you are looking to do some NFL betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Chargers 2.5 point favorites at home over the Colts at Sportsbook.com
The Colts started slow last week against the Texans, but Manning and company got it going late and the Colts wound up winning 33-27, as they too need every win they can get. Peyton Manning looked much more like the guy we have grown so use to seeing over the years, as he had 320 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. The Colts also got the running game going in this one, as Joseph Addai carried it 22 times for 105 yards and a score, plus got an additional 48 yards from backup Dominic Rhodes. With the Chargers really struggling against the run this season, we really think the Colts will do their best to pound the football, but with Manning behind center you know these guys are going to throw the football a bunch.
Now the Colts weren’t very good against the run last week, as they let rookie Steve Slaton rack up 156 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries, and veteran Ahman Green had 2 touchdown runs on top of that. The Colts did do a good job keeping backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels in check, as he had just 192 yards with an interception. Now even though Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson hasn’t had the season many would expect out of the future Hall of Famer, you have to be concerned about the numbers he could put up this week against the shaky Colts run defense. The Chargers just can’t get anything going, and just when you thought they were going to pull off the huge win at Pittsburgh last week, they wind up letting the Steelers drive it 73 yards in 6 and half minutes for the game winning field goal. Quarterback Philip Rivers had a bad day throwing the football, as he was able to total just 159 yards with no touchdown and 2 interceptions. The Chargers tried to get LT going on the ground, as they gave it to him 18 times, but Tomlinson was only able to gain 57 yards, but did have the teams only touchdown. The play that really wound up costing this team the game, was a fumble by Rivers in the endzone that led to a Steelers safety. The offense better pick it up at home this week, or its going to be season over for these guys.
The Chargers defense did its job last week holding the Steelers to just 11 points, as they only allowed 3 field goals on top of the safety in this one. Now when a team doesn’t let the other team score a touchdown, you are suppose to win those games, and this defense has to be a little pissed the offense couldn’t get the job done. Now what scares you about the game last week, is the Steelers had well over 400 yards of total offense, as Roethlisberger threw for over 300 yards and Willie Parker ran it 25 times for 115. If the Chargers give up those kind of yards this week to the Colts, its unlikely they even have a chance in this one. Bet Chargers -2.5 at Sportsbook.com
