If you want to succeed at poker then you are going to have to have a high concentration level at the poker table. This way you can take in more information about your opponents. So let’s see why it might be a mistake to wear headphone and listen to music or wear sunglasses while you are playing.

The game of poker centers around information, both that you give to your opponents and they give to you. Most of the time that information comes in the form of betting patterns, why is key if you are playing online poker. All of the information is right there for you when you are playing the hand. If you play in a live game though, there is additional information to be gained through physical tells and audio cues.

Some players a visual who are constantly roaming their eyes to take in everything that is going on at the table. If these players wear sunglasses, they might not be able to soak in the same amount of detail. Sure, you might give away a little something with your eyes, but the payoff from what you are gaining is well worth it. Plus, it makes the game more interesting as well with all the visual details you are taking in.

A lot of players wear headphones, but the good players normally do not like these guys. First of all, they slow down the action, and second, they hurt the people that use them. When a player throws in a single, large chip and says “raise” or “call” the players with their headphones on can’t hear that. The action will grind to a halt as the player takes off his headphones to ask the dealer what the bet is. Plus, poker is supposed to be a social game, and listening to music and not talking to anyone really detracts from the atmosphere.

If you are listening to people at the table then you can pick up on some valuable information. You can almost always tell when a player is in over their head and when they know what they are doing.

Just keep in mind that the game of poker centers around information. Sunglasses may keep you from revealing too much to your opponents, but they also stop more from coming in. Headphones also limit the amount of audio cues you can get from players. If you are handicapping yourself with either of these, then you might think about ditching them to increase your winnings.
