Connecticut at Notre Dame Football Betting Lines

Written November 18, 2009 by Rock Henderson

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on their second Big East opponent in a row when the Connecticut Huskies come to South Bend. Irish head coach Charlie Weis might have one foot out the door as his team has once again under performed sitting at 6-4 with two games to play. Uconn has had a tumultuous season that has resulted in a 4-5 record, but can still gain bowl eligibility by finishing strong in their final three games. Notre Dame is a 6 point favorite according to our latest college football lines.

Randy Edsall’s squad has been through the lowest of lows this season when they lost teammate Jasper Howard to an on campus stabbing after an altercation occurred outside a school sponsored dance. The Huskies have played with much emotion since the tragic event took place, but their last win was the final game Howard would compete in against Louisville. They have lost their last three games by a combined 10 points and can’t seem to pull out a close game. Uconn has relied heavily on the run this year even though they lost star RB Donald Brown to the NFL. Sophomore Jordan Todman has ran for 826 yards and 12 touchdowns after seeing limited action as a true freshman. His coming out party came a week ago against the 5th ranked Cincinnati Bearcats when Todman ran for 162 yards and four touchdowns in a loss. Andre Dixon provides a nice 1-2 punch with Todman, but has seen his carries decrease in recent weeks. Dixon has rushed for 730 yards and seven scores. Starting QB Cody Endres leads the team in passing and hung 378 yards on West Virginia. He suffered a season ending shoulder injury against Rutgers and now it is up to junior Zach Frazer to lead his team to a bowl game.  Pick up a $20 free play that you can use to bet college football this season when you open a new account with Sportsbook.com.

There is no doubt that Notre Dame has some of the best talent in the nation, but that hasn’t equated to much success in Charlie Weis’s five year run. QB Jimmy Clausen has pro scouts attention with his big arm and prototypical size. He has thrown for over 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns with only four interceptions. It doesn’t hurt that Clausen has two play making wide receivers to target. WR Golden Tate has been an absolute beast all season long which has resulted in 74 catches for 1,172 yards and 11 touchdowns. Tate benefited from WR Michael Floyd going down with an injury earlier this season and his numbers spiked. Floyd is no slouch himself though as the sophomore receiver was playing at a high level before the injury happened. RB Armando Allen Jr. returned last week against Pitt and rushed for 77 yards as he is an important part of the Fighting Irish’s potent offense. Where this team has struggled in on the defensive side of the ball as they have given up big play after big play on the ground and in the air. Defensive coordinator John Tenuta’s 3-4 blitzing defense hasn’t stopped opposing offenses from having success against the Irish. Both Tenuta and Weis could be looking for jobs in the off-season.

Notre Dame has been over valued by odds makers all season long. This is one week were I don’t think they are giving enough points against an average Uconn team. They played inspired football last week at Pitt in a loss and will come out with something to prove in front of the home crowd to make a point that Charlie Weis deserves to stay. Play: Notre Dame -6
