Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 25, 2008 by Jason Lowry

It’s hard to imagine that all the Dallas Cowboys have to do to make the playoffs is beat the Philadelphia Eagles on the road this weekend. After last weeks crushing loss to the Ravens at home, it looked like the Cowboys season was pretty much over, but thanks to the Eagles and Buccaneers losing their games as well, the Cowboys remain the front runner for the final playoff spot. The Eagles could have been in complete control of that final spot, had they not fell just short to the Redskins last week 3-10. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting this Sunday, the oddsmakers have the Eagles -1.5 point favorites over the Cowboys at Bookmaker.com.
After losing what was likely the last ever Cowboys game played at Texas Stadium, the Cowboys have to pack their bags and find a way to win this week on the road. Against the Ravens Tony Romo was not on his game, as he completed just 24 of 45 passes for 252 yards with 2 scores and 2 interceptions. Making things worse Romo has missed practice this week due to an illness, and thats the last thing this offense needs going into this weekend. Tashard Choice once again filled in the starting tailback spot with a great performance, as he not only ran for 90 yards and a score, but added another 25 yards receiving. Both Jason Witten and Terrell Owens had a touchdown in this one, but the offense rarely seemed on the same page. Now if you remember back to the first time these two teams hooked up, it was an offense showcase, as Dallas took home a 41-37 on the road.
After doing whatever it could to keep the Cowboys in the game last week, the defense completely fell apart in the 4th quarter, as it first let Willis McGahee break a run on the first play after the Cowboys pulled with in 2 points on Owen’s touchdown catch. Dallas then responded with another touchdown, as Romo hit Witten on a 21 yard strike, but once again the Ravens struck right back, as Le’Ron McClain took it 82 yards on the first play of the series to put the Ravens up for good. The Cowboys wound up allowing the Ravens to run for 265, and if they let the Eagles Brian Westbrook have that kind of success they can kiss their season goodbye. Bet Dallas Cowboys +1.5 at BetUS.
The Eagles need a lot to go their way if they want to sneak in the back door to the playoffs, but if anything you know this team would love nothing more than to make sure the Cowboys season ended after this weekend as well. The Eagles fell just inches short last week, as Donovan McNabb hit Reggie Brown with time expiring, but unfortunately Brown wound up just inches in front of the goal line, and the Eagles season took a big swing in the wrong direction. As bad as Brown may feel for not making the big play, the blame goes on everyone on the offensive side of things last week, as you can’t expect to win many football games scoring just 3 points. McNabb threw for 230 yards and Brian Westbrook led the way with 45 yards rushing and 71 yards receiving, but the Eagles just never got anything going against a solid Redskins defense. Last time against the Cowboys McNabb had 281 yards and a score, while Westbrook had 3 total touchdowns, and the Eagles looked like they were going to have one of their best offenses in years back in week 2, but that has not been the case this season.
The Eagles defense played one hell of a football game last week, as they allowed just 10 points on the road, and really made things hard for Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell, as Campbell was sacked 3 times in this one and had just 144 yards passing on the game. The Redskins only touchdown came on a 1 yard run by Clinton Portis in the 3rd quarter, as the Eagles had trouble keeping Portis in check at times. Now Romo and the Cowboy threw all over this defense earlier this season, and if Romo can somehow find his touch again this weekend, it’s going to either be another shootout or the Eagles will have a lot of questions to answer about where this team is headed. Bet Philadelphia Eagles -1.5 at BetUS.
Lowry’s Lean on this game: Eagles -1.5
The Cowboys have too much talent on their team to even be in the situation they are going into the final game of the season, but this team continues to fail to make the big plays on defense when it needs to, and Romo is making awful decisions throwing the football. This team is a complete mess in the clubhouse, and I just don’t see how this team goes on the road and beats the Eagles this weekend.
Predicted Score: Eagles 30 Dallas 27

This game will not be as close as you may think. Remember, Dallas did not have the powerhouse defense they have now at the first meeting. Sure Dallas will put up a lot of offensive points, but expect the Eagles to be stopped quite often. Dallas 27-Eagles 10….Keep in mind that while the Ravens ran all over Dallas last week, most of that was because the defense was tired. The offense was hardly on the field and the defense had to work 3x’s as hard, and were on the field too long and wore out….The defense only fell apart in the 3rd quarter. Expect Romo to be on his game, and the Cowboys to pull away a big victory!

The Cowboys disappointed all season long and they didn’t change course for this game. Hard to believe the Eagles are in and they are out.
