NFL Odds: Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins

Written November 16, 2008 by Brad Marchetti

The Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins Sunday matinee will mark the return of Dallas QB Tony Romo. Romo will be returning while Redskins MVP-caliber RB Clinton Portis will be on the sidelines. Portis has a sprained left knee leaving running duties to capable but less dynamic backup Ladell Betts. Despite the loss off Portis, Washington (6-3) has taken their last 3 meetings at home and are playing smart football. Dallas (5-4) need this game in a bad way if they are going to make a playoff run in the NFC Beast division. The NFL betting odds for the Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins game is Dallas -1.5 points.

Tony Romo (103.5 passer rating) will challenge a strong Washington secondary that could be missing CB Shawn Springs. Dallas has some big hogs up front that should be able to keep Romo’s jersey clean. The Redskins have not had much of a pass-rush with only 15.0 team sacks. Romo should have time to look deep to vertical threats Terrell Owens (6′3″ 228 4.50 40-speed) and Roy Williams (6′2″ 220 4.40 40-speed). Marion “The Barbarian” Barber All-Pro TE Jason Witten is banged up with bruised ribs so his status is up in the air. The status of star rookie RB Felix Jones (5′10″ 210 4.40 40-speed) is up in the air with hamstring injury. The NFL betting OVERUNDER for the Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins game is 42.5 to 43.0 points

Washington’s offense is led by the smart and instinctive play of QB Jason Campbell (92.4 passer rating). With Portis out and star WR Santana Moss (4.30 40-speed 40+ vertical leap) limping, Campbell will need to make some big plays. Backup RB Ladell Betts (5′11″ 225) has done a good job touting the rock this season with 4.1 yards per carry but he is no Clinton Portis. Dallas LB’s Zach Thomas (5′9″ 230 4.80 40-speed) and Bradie James (6′2″ 245 4.80 40-speed) should be able to match up well against Betts. Thomas and James are both smart players that benefit from playing Dallas’s struggling secondary will welcome playmaking CB Terrence Newman (5′11″ 195 4.40 40-speed). The secondary has been smoked consistently despite a rabid pass-rush that has recorded 26.0 sacks.

After a blazing start the Cowboys have been grounded in recent outings. T.O had this to say about the recent turn of events: “I think the loss to Washington made a lot of people raise a lot of eyebrows,” Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens said. “I think those two games alone kind of let everybody in this locker room know you got to have sort of a self check like, ‘OK, we’re probably not as good as we think we are, or probably not as good as hyped.”’ The Cowboys are a different team with Romo but will he be rusty in his first game back? Can Washington win without Clinton Portis? Can Jason Campbell carry the offense if Dallas shuts down the running game? If you want to make your NFL football picks on the MONEYLINE for the Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins game is at Dallas -130.
