Antonio Cromartie Traded to NY Jets

Written March 5, 2010 by Jack Jones

The NY Jets were one of the best defensive teams in the league last season, and their secondary just received a big upgrade at cornerback.  Antonio Cromartie, the former Pro Bowl cornerback who had 10 interceptions back in 2007, has been traded to the Jets in exchange for a 2011 third-round draft pick that could turn into a second-rounder.  If you think this move makes the Jets a contender for the Super Bowl next year, then take a look at the 20-to-1 odds of the Jets winning the Super Bowl currently being offered by BetUS.

Rex Ryan already had the best cover man in the game with Darrelle Revis, and now he adds a solid corner who has struggled the past couple of seasons. Since his 10 interception season back in 2007, Cromartie has struggled with two picks in 2008 and just three a year ago.  Maybe a change of scenary will re-start this once promising career, since he seems like he has been in the Chargers dog house lately.  He was disciplined for tweeting on team premises, had a run-in with police last November after a bar patron claimed Cromartie hit him in the head with a champaign bottle (no chargers were filed), and has dealt with at least five paternity lawsuits.

Even with all of his off-the-field problems, there is no denying Cromartie’s talent, and with the way Ryan coaches defense, I’m hoping he can get this guy back on track.  When the 2010 season rolls around, check back for the NFL spreads on all of the games, and our NFL expert picks on who is going to cover.
