Chicago Cubs at Houston Astros Odds & Picks

Chicago is 28-26 on the season. Considering the injuries they have had their record is quite good in my opinion. When you lose guys like Aramis Ramirez and Milton Bradley for extended periods of time it will reflect your performance a ton. Alfonso Soriano must hit for a better average then the .241 he has so far. He does have 14 home runs and 27 RBIs. A big reason why the Cubbies have kept their record on the winning side is due to their spread out run production. Ryan Theriot, Kosuke Fukudome, Derrek Lee and Michael Fontenot all have 20+ RBIs. On the pitching side, Ted Lilly takes the mound tonight. He is 6-4 with a 3.28 ERA. His record doesn’t show how good he has been. If his team would score some runs for him he would have eight wins by now. Lilly is 2-0 against the Astros this season. Look for Soriano to have possibly his best game of the year tonight as he has been swinging a good power bat. Fukudome has success against Houston as well. The Cubs will be put in position late in the game for a victory, it will be up to the bullpen to save it. Tuesday’s MLB odds show the Cubs -125 over the Astros and an over/under of 9 runs.
The Astros are 25-30 on the season but have played much better of late. They have won 7-3 in their last 10 games. Miguel Tejada has quietly been one of the better hitters in baseball this season. He has six home runs, 33 RBIs while hitting an eye popping .354 from the plate. While Carlos Lee’s power numbers are down a bit with 10 homers and 38 RBIs, he has a much improved batting average of .328. Berkman has struggled, greatly. He is hitting .246 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs. So the hitting is here for Houston. The problem is, the Astros staff stinks. The starters they counted on in Oswalt and Wandy Rodriguez have struggled. Tonight they send Brian Moehler to the mound who brings with him his unimpressive 2-3 record and 6.37 ERA to the mound. Moehler is 0-2 at home with an 8.24 ERA. Here is the icing on the cake, in Moehler’s two starts against the Cubs this year he is 1-1 with a 13.50 ERA as Chicago hit .394 off him. Easy pickens.
Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Cubs are 3-8 in their last 11 road games. Houston as stated above is 7-3 in their last 10 games. In the head to head area, Chicago is 7-1 against the Astros on the road in their last eight games. Expect that to be 8-1 after tonight. Lilly will pitch well and the Cubbies will unload on Moehler. BEST BET/LOCK CITY on the Chicago Cubs tonight.
Jordan’s Picks: Chicago Cubs -125 (BEST BET) & OVER 9 (Strong Play)
