Dallas Cowboys at Kansas City Chiefs NFL Lines
Written October 9, 2009 by Black Widow
The 0-4 Kansas City Chiefs host the 2-2 Dallas Cowboys Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs are coming off a 16-27 home loss to the New York Giants while the Cowboys are off an upset road loss, 10-17, at the Denver Broncos. NFL lines are posted for this game with Dallas -8 over Kansas City with a Total Set of 42.5 points.
The Cowboys have won just two games this season, both against winless teams in the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Their two losses have come against unbeaten teams in the Giants and Broncos in heartbreaking fashion. The good news for Dallas is that they face another winless team in the Chiefs this week, who have not looked good at all even in losing efforts. Tony Romo started the season well with a career-best 353 passing yards in their 34-21 road win at Tampa Bay. But it has been a shaky road for Romo since, and it’s clear they miss Terrell Owens on offense. Roy Williams is doubtful for Sunday with a rib injury, leaving the Cowboys even more depleted at wide receiver. The offense has faltered so much recently that the Cowboys have scored just 2 touchdowns on their last 22 possessions. Look for a heavy dose of Marion Barber and Tashard Choice in this one as Dallas tries to grind it out on the ground because they are one of the best rushing teams in the league.

The Kansas City Chiefs have lost 27 of their last 29 games dating back to 2007. That’s a very stunning number, but they’ve had several close losses along the way. This season though, the Chiefs have been blown out in three of their four games so far, and they haven’t started a season 0-5 since 1977. They’ll need a big effort to avoid that feat Sunday. Kansas City ranks 28th in the league in pass defense, giving up 250 yards/game through the air. K.C. held JaMarcus Russell to 109 yards passing in their 10-13 loss in Week 2, but the other three teams they have faced have put up an average of nearly 309 passing yards/game. Matt Cassel did throw two touchdown passes late against the Giants last week, but the Chiefs put up just 193 total yards for the game. Third downs could play a big role in those one. K.C. has converted just 2-of-26 third downs over their last two games, and they are converting just 17.6% for the season on third downs. They have to try and find a way to move the chains, and finding a running game would help to set up more manageable third downs Sunday.
