Dallas Cowboys vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL Odds

Written September 11, 2009 by InfoPlays

Dallas Cowboys vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL OddsA new chapter starts for the Dallas Cowboys this season, one without Terrell Owens, Roy Williams, Pacman Jones and Tank Williams. This team is trying to throw the egos out the door and make room for a better locker room. A new chapter also starts for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one led by 33-year-old head coach in Raheem Morris. Gone are Derrick Brooks, Warrick Done and Joey Galloway, three stalwarts in the Buccaneers organization. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, starting with their Week 1 meeting on Sunday, September 13th. NFL odds have listed Dallas -6 over Tampa Bay with a Total Set of 39 points.

The big names are gone, and now this is Tony Romo’s team. The Cowboys were considered a Super Bowl favorite the past two years, but both seasons ended in turmoil and disappointment. Dallas missed out on the playoffs last year by losing their final two games, a 33-24 home drubbing to Baltimore and a shocking 44-6 loss at Philadelphia. Romo is 27-12 as a starter for the Cowboys, but he’s just 5-8 in December and 0-2 in the playoffs, the two numbers that matter the most. For one offseason, the storylines in Dallas weren’t about Owens or Romo’s dating life. The biggest media grabs were the collapse of their indoor practice facility and the new $1.15 billion stadium. But before they’ll get a chance to show it off, the Cowboys must first go take care of business in Tampa Bay this weekend. The go-to receivers will be new No. 1 target Roy Williams, along with the ever-reliable Jason Witten at tight end. Marion Barber will be asked to take on an even bigger role this season in the running game, and look for change-of-pace backs Felix Jones and Tashard Choice to chip in as well.

Gone is 11-time Pro Bowl linebacker, Derrick Brooks, and in are six new starters on the Tampa Bay defense. Cornerback Ronde Barber is still around, and he’ll have to play the role of the veteran leader this season. This defense will have their hands full in trying to slow down the Cowboys’ offense, which has seen Romo throw for more than 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns the last two seasons, the first time that’s been done since Roger Staubach was wearing a Star on his helmet. Byron Leftwich tries to resurrect his career as the starting quarterback to start the season. But he’s simply a stop-gap until first-round pick Josh Freeman is ready to take over the offense. Cadillac Williams returns from a second knee surgery, and he’ll get the start at tailback for the Buccaneers.
