2011 Denver Broncos Schedule
Written by Steve Janus - Google +
The Denver Broncos experiment with Josh McDaniels at head coach came to an abrupt end last year, and now the organization puts its future in the hands of former Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox. The Broncos ended the 2010-11 NFL season 4-12, tied for the second worse record in all of football. Denver will not only have to adjust to the changes under a new head coach, they are also making the move back to a 4-3 defense just a couple seasons after switching to the 3-4 scheme. With all the changes being made it’s hard to imagine this team making an immediate turn around this season, but the key for this organization will be showing their fans they are headed in the right direction.
To get a better idea of what we should expect from the Broncos this season, here is a closer look at their 2011-12 regular season schedule. Outside of their six division games against the San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Oakland Raiders, Denver will take on the AFC East, NFC North, Cincinnati Bengals, and Tennessee Titans.
The Broncos went 1-5 in their six games against the AFC West last year. Their lone win did come against the Kansas City Chiefs, who ended up winning the division. While no division game is ever easy, it’s hard to imagine the Broncos having much success against their division rivals this season. I wouldn’t be surprised if they managed to come away with at least one win, but expect Denver to be underdogs in every game.
The Broncos likely won’t be favored in any of their games against the AFC East. While they tend to play better at home than on the road, this team will be lucky to even keep it close in their two home games against the New Engalnd Patriots and New York Jets. That leaves the Broncos with two road games against the Miami Dolphin and Buffalo Bills. If Denver doesn’t pull off an upset on the road, it’s likely an 0-4 mark against the East.
Things don’t get much easier in their four games against the NFC North. Denver has to go on the road to take on the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers, while getting the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears at home. I’m not giving the Broncos any shot of beating Green Bay unless Aaron Rodgers is out with an injury. Stopping the Vikings and Adrian Peterson also won’t be easy for this team. Denver has a shot in their two home games against the Bears and Lions, but neither game figures to be easy.
The Broncos take on the two other teams that finished last in their division right off the bat, as they host the Bengals in week 2 and go on the road to take on the Titans in week 3. These two games will give us a good idea of where this team is. If they lose both of these games, it’s hard to imagine Denver improving on their 4-12 mark from a year ago.
