Desert Party & Regal Ransom 2009 Kentucky Derby Odds
Written April 30, 2009 by Jack Jones
Both Desert Party and Regal Ransom are part of Godophin Racing’s thoroughbred outfit and will be making the trip over from Dubait to compete in this year’s Kentucky Derby. Godolphin hasn’t had much success in the past bringing horses over to the United States’ biggest race, but many think that this year could be different. At BetUS Racebook Desert Party is 15/1 while Regal Ransom is 25/1.
The head trainer for these horses is Saeed big Suroor who has won nearly every race out there except for the Derby. He does have the advantage of getting some of the best horses in the world to work with, but he gets the best races possibe out of his horses on the most important days.
Both Desert Party and Regal Ransom have the pedigree to produce a winner. Desert Party’s half-brother Street Sense won in 2007 and both were sired by Street Cry. His grandfather is Tabasco Cat, winner of the 1994 Belmont Stakes. Regal Ransom is the half-brother to Funny Cide, winner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby. Both of these horses were bred to run the 1 1/4 mile distance of this race.
Suroor and Godolphin changed their methodology this year, electing to send the horses in two weeks early instead of just a few days in advance. This should help both Regal Ransom and Desert Party get used to their surroundings and run a more comfortable race.
It’s only a matter of time before the world’s premier racing outfit wins America’s most prestigous race. This year they are bringing two highly talented horses, so you might want to take a look at the odds on both Desert Party and Regal Ransom when making your Kentucky Derby wagers this year.
