Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox Odds & Picks

Written June 10, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

tigers-white-sox-betting-preview-061009At 32-26, The Detroit Tigers stand alone in first place in their division. They have won two of the first three games of the current series against the White Sox. Fresh off Miguel Cabrera’s game winning homer last night, Detroit’s bats look to continue their great play. Cabrera is having a MVP caliber year as it seems every time the Tigers are involved in my picks all I do is complement him and this is why, he is hitting .337 with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs and has an OBP of .406. They are getting a career year from Brandon Inge who has 13 home runs and 40 RBIs while perennial lead off man now 5th spot hitter Curtis Granderson has bulked up and has contributed 13 home runs and 35 RBIs himself. Maggs is still struggling but you know when the year comes to an end his numbers will be there like they always are. Justin Verlander will take the mound tonight and look to improve on his already stellar season. He is 6-2 with a 3.26 ERA. While Verlander has struggled with his ERA on the road at 4.15, he faces a very one dimensional line up that is very strikeout heavy. Last season he went 1-5 with a 5.83 ERA against the Chi Sox. Redemption time tonight is what will be on his mind. Look for the ace of staff to have a dominating performance.  The MLB odds for today’s game have been posted and they show the Tigers -135 against the White Sox with the total set at 8.5 runs.

The Chicago White Sox are 27-32 on the season and are coming off a rough extra inning loss to Detroit. Jermaine Dye has been by far this teams main attraction this season with 15 home runs, 39 RBIs and is hitting a decent .282 from the plate. Paul Konerko has been solid as well with a batting average of .295 with eight homers and 39 RBIs. Jim Thome has had a down year while Alexei Ramirez has arguably been the most disappointing player in all of baseball. Their most talented player in Carlos Quentin has been hurt and they look up at teams that are just more equip to improve. The pitching has been below average overall as well. Tonight John Danks take the mound with his 4-4 record and 5.10 ERA. Coming off a nice rookie season Manager Ozzie Guillen had high hopes for Danks, unfortunately for Chicago they have not come true. He is coming off a start in which a depleted Cleveland Indians team roughed him up for five runs in 5.2 innings of work. Danks has a 5.70 ERA against right handed hitters. Cabrera, Inge and Magglio all hit from the right side. Uh Oh, trouble in Chi Town tonight looks imminent.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Tigers are 16-5 in the last 21 games as the favorite. The White Sox are 2-7 in their last nine home games.. The White Sox are 9-3 against Detroit in Chicago over the past 12 starts. Tonight, that wont matter a bit. Detroit looks sharp and The White Sox do not. The Tigers have a versatile line up while Chicago is strikeout heavy. TIGERS BIG TONIGHT. Best best is declared.

Jordan’s Pick: Detroit Tigers -137 (BEST BET)
