2010 Deutsche Bank Championship Predictions

Matt Kuchar took home the first win of the PGA Tour playoffs, as he shot a 5-under 66 on Sunday to catch Martin Laird, before winning the tournament in a sudden death playoff. This week the PGA Tour heads to Norton, Massachusetts for the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship held at TPC Boston. The field will be cut in half this weekend, as the top 70 players will move on to the final two playoff events, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship. The event is unlike most weekend tournaments, as the first round will get underway on Friday and conclude on Monday, as the tournament adjusts to Labor Day Weekend.
Steve Stricker was able to hold off a strong field to win the 2009 Deutsche Bank Championship by one stroke, and definitely figures to be in contention this week. TPC Boston is a relatively easy course, but the forecast is calling for strong winds that will toughen up the course and force the players to play much better golf. If you are looking to make some money betting on the tournament this weekend, here is a look at the three golfers I feel have a great shot at moving up in the standings and taking home the win.
Steve Stricker: Not only is Stricker the defending champion of this event, he has finished 13th or better in each of his previous four starts at this event. Stricker heads into the weekend off a very strong finish last week at the Barclays where he finished tied for third just two shots off the lead. He has the all-around game that makes him a threat to win on just about any course he tees it up on. He comes into the tournament second to Kuchar in the FedEx points standings, and is not only great at finding the fairways and greens, but is one of the best putters on tour. The only player with better odds to win this weekend is Tiger Woods, and the way Woods has struggled, I believe it is Stricker’s tournament to lose.
Dustin Johnson: Here is a guy that is really playing some strong golf heading into the second of four playoff events. Johnson backed up his tie for fifth at the PGA Championship with a tie for ninth last week at the Barclays. Johnson hits it a mile off the tee and even though he struggles to find the fairways, he is currently ranked 39th in greens in regulation. I believe the key for Johnson this weekend will be keeping the putting stroke going, as he is very tough to beat when he is making putts.
Paul Casey: If you are looking for a player with a little better betting odds for your money, I think Casey is the guy you are looking for this weekend. I believe Casey comes into the tournament extremely focused and ready to prove to the world that European Ryder Cup caption Collin Montgomery made a huge mistake when passing on Casey as an alternate pick. Casey also has that all-around game that makes him a threat to win just about every weekend, and is coming into the tournament off back-to-back 12th place finishes at the PGA Championship and last week at the Barclays.
