Baseball Odds & Picks: Diamondbacks vs Mets
Written August 3, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The D-Backs enter tonight’s game looking to take this four game series @ New York. Arizona has taken two of the first two games behind good pitching performances. On the season they are 46-59, when breaking down their lineup and pitching staff you’d see that they are much more talented then that poor record shows. Led by all-star Justin Upton and power hitting third baseman Mark Reynolds, Arizona has a nice future ahead of them. Upton it hitting .300 on the dot with 20 homers and 65 RBIs. Reynolds amazingly has 30 home runs and 70 RBIs. Stephen Drew is very solid as well but has been hit with the injury bug this season. There are quite a few other youngsters on this ball club that can contribute nicely. The man on the mound for the Diamondbacks tonight is as dominant a pitcher that you’ll find this year. Dan Haren brings his 10-6 record and eye popping 2.19 ERA to Citi Field against the Mets. Haren has been just as dominant on the road then he has at home this season. The Mets lineup is comical, this game has all the tell tale signs of road team dominance. Look for Justin Upton to have a big game offensively and for Dan Haren to control every single second. Haren has also been superb against NL East opponents. Monday’s MLB lines show the Diamondbacks as -168 moneyline favorites against the Mets with the over/under set for 7.5 runs.
The New York Mets are just hoping they will wake up one morning and this nightmare of a season will be over. The Injuries they have suffered are as bad as any team ever, their pitching has been pitiful and they have one of the worst managers in sports today. They have front office people threatening to fight young players while GM Omar Minaya feels it is acceptable to accuse reports of slander with intention on stealing some body’s job…IN A PUBLIC PRESS CONFERENCE. Yeah, juicy stuff huh. It is not all off the field problems though. David Wright has seven home runs this season to date while David Murphy can’t seem to crack the .250 BA mark. Reyes, Delgado, Beltran and John Maine all remained sidelined with injuries. Nelson Figueroa gets the start tonight for the first time in, well, a while. Expect Nelson to struggle a bunch as Arizona has a lot of versatile players that will draw walks and not help him outside of the strike zone. Road team takes this one, no doubt.
Haimo’s Hot Notes: Arizona is 10-3 in their last 13 games as the favorite. The Mets are 6-4 in their last 10 games overall. Now, the Mets have the recent head to head edge, however, you need to understand that was with a different arsenal of talent. This is most certainly not your usual Mets displayed. Haren will shut them out tonight. Take Arizona on the RL with a small play on the UNDER.
Jordan’s Picks: Arizona Diamondbacks -1.5 Runs & UNDER 7.5
