Baseball Picks: LA Dodgers at San Francisco Giants

Written August 11, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

dodgers-giants-preview-081109The Dodgers took the first game of this series 4-2 yesterday behind solid pitching from Hirkoi Kuroda. Matt Kemp has been a one man wrecking crew of late, His averaged has climbed to .314 while adding 15 homers and 72 RBIs this season. James Loney and Casey Blake both have 65+ RBIs while both hit above .280 from the dish. Andre Ethier has 23 homers and 73 RBIs this season while Manny has really started to come around. This is as well balanced a lineup as you’ll see. Orlando Hudson is no slouch himself and Juan Pierre could be the best bench player in the league. On the mound tonight is Randy Wolf who has been solid overall but struggling a bit of late. He is 5-6 on the season with a very respectable 3.55 ERA. I believe Wolf will pitch well tonight and here is why. He has a 3.04 ERA on the road as opposed to his 4.03 ERA at home. In his only start against San Francisco this season he went 6 innings allowing only 5 hits and was the unfortunate receiver of awful defense as the Giants scored three UN-EARNED runs off him. The Giants hit .208 as a team off him in those starts. Wolf will control his pitches with decent velocity and take care of an overrated team in San Fran that will soon start to falter.  Tuesday’s baseball lines show the Dodgers at -132 against the Giants with an over/under set at 8.5 runs.

The Giants are 5-5 in their last 10 games overall and currently sit one game behind division rival Colorado for the wildcard lead. This is as easy of a team to break down in all of MLB. Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain, the two headed monster that must win their games or they will not make the post season. Pablo Sandoval “Kung Fu Panda” has taken this team by storm, he is hitting a superb .331 with 17 homers and 68 RBIs. Bengie Molina has 14 homers and 61 RBIs as well while hitting .267 from the plate. Newly acquired Freddy Sanchez is a solid addition as he hits .298 from the plate, not to mention he is a solid fielder. Aaron Rowand continues to have a disappointing season while Ryan Garko who was acquired from the Indians must also perform at a higher pace. Joe Martinez gets the start tonight which his only the second start for him this season. He defeated Houston on the road in his first start. The Dodgers though are a much more patient and versatile team.. Look for them to take many pitches tonight and for Martinez to have a high pitch count by the 4th innings. I do acknowledge this team is improved, but they are not at LA’s level. They send the weaker pitcher, lineup and bullpen out tonight. You do the math.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Dodgers are 9-2 in their last 11 Tuesday games. Los Angeles is 9-3 in Wolf’s last 12 starts when they are the favorite. The Dodgers are 6-4 against the Giants this season. Wolf is better then Martinez, LA has more speed, power, hit for a better average and are much better defensively while also sporting the vastly better bullpen arms. Picks below.

Jordan’s Picks: Los Angeles Dodgers -133 & Over 8.5 Runs (-110)

Jordan’s Premium Picks — I went 2-1 on the premium picks yesterday hitting BOTH of my ****4 Star**** selections on Boston and Seattle. The Orioles fell as my small play. We split on the Free Play picks as the Astros lost but the Over hit. Tonight I have two premium picks available that are as good as it gets. Both of them being GUARANTEED! Act now as one of them is a 4 star selection.
