LA Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies Game 2 Predictions
Written October 10, 2008 by Jack Jones

The National League Championship started off yesterday with a 3-2 win by the Philadelphia Phillies over the LA Dodgers. Now the Dodgers will be trying to take away home field advantage with a win at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night in Game 2 action. The latest MLB odds are currently showing the Dodgers as -110 favorites over the Phillies to win this game. If you want to know what our experts think then get signed up for a baseball picks package today.
It only took two bad pitches by Derek Lowe and a throwing error by Rafael Furcal to cost LA game 1. Those three mistakes happened in the sixth inning when Shane Victorino reached first on Furcal’s error, then Chase Utley and Pat Burrell hit home runs to give the Phillies the three runs they needed to win the game. Burrell is now 5-for-7 with three home runs in his last two postseason games.
The Phillies are yet to lose in three games at home this year and are looking to return to the World Series for the first time since losing to the Toronto Bluejays back in 1993. Brett Myers will get the start and he’s 8-5 with a 2.98 ERA in front of his home faithful this year.
So far this postseason he has given up just two runs in seven innings. Those all came in a 5-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 2 of the NLDS. Myers also has picked up a win against the Dodgers and his opponent tonight, Chad Billingsley. For his career Myers is 4-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 11 starts against LA.
If Myers wants to win this game then he needs to figure out a way to stop Manny Ramirez, whose RBI double in the first gave the Dodgers a quick lead. He was 2-for-4 to bring his total to 7-for-14 with two home runs and four RBIs in the playoffs. He has only gone 3-for-19 in his career against Myers though. If you think Myers can get the job done, the best line to bet Philadelphia is at Bookmaker at +101.
Dodgers manager Joe Torre is confident that his team will be ready to bounce back after their first loss of the playoffs. All of his players are determined to earn a split here in Philadelphia so they can hold the series advantage.
Billingsley pitched well in his first playoff start, limiting the Chicago Cubs to just one run over 6 2/3 innings while striking out seven batters. He is 7-6 with a 3.21 ERA on the road this year, and he has not done too well against Philadelphia’s top hitters. Utley is 2-for-5 with two walks and Ryan Howard is 2-for-6 with a home run and three walks. It’s a good thing Howard is struggling in these playoffs, his 0-for-4 Thursday brought him to 2-for-15 in these playoffs.
