Dolphins at Titans NFL Odds

Written December 18, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

It may not get the huge billing of the some of the other games this weekend, but the showdown between Tennessee Titans and the Miami Dolphins should be a very good game. The Dolphins sit at 7-6 and have a decent shot to get into the playoffs if they can play themselves in. The Titans have a very remote chance, but the 0-6 start really did them in. Recently the Titans have been playing very good football and since their styles of play are similar I would expect this to be a very good one. The Miami Dolphins have won four of their last five to put themselves into a position where they could definitely make the postseason. Chad Henne hasn’t had brilliant numbers, but he has done a very good job managing the team since Chad Pennington went out with an injury. Henne has had the team in come from behind wins on more than one occasion this year. Since Ronnie Brown went down the real star of the offense has been Ricky Williams. Williams is 32 now, but he hasn’t lost a step. Williams is running the wildcat very effectively and averages 4.9 yards per carry this season. The receiving corps isn’t great, but they have improved somewhat this year. The defense has given up 23.5 points per game this season. The defense has been a bit inconsistent, but for the most part they have done their job relatively well.

The Titans started the season 0-6 after a terrific year last season, but they have stormed back to have a 6-7 record now. Vince Young has been the starter of late and has done a very good job leading the offense and taking care of the ball. Young is questionable with a hamstring injury for this Sunday’s game, but indications are starting to point to Young trying to start on Sunday. Young did practice Thursday and split the snaps with Kerry Collins. The Titans are a run first team, with Chris Johnson being the real star of the offense. Johnson has averaged 6 yards per carry this season and has 1,626 yards. Bo Scaife is a solid tight end and Kenny Britt is turning into a nice young receiver for the Titans. The Titans defense was terrible at the beginning of the season, but they have started to turn it around of late. In their last 3 games the Titans are allowing just 17 points per game.

Currently the NFL betting lines show the Titans as a 3 point favorite, though the game is off the board at many shops as they await word on Vince Young’s status. Before you make your NFL predictions for Sunday, make sure you know Young’s status. The posted total set on the game is 43 points.

This will be a battle of two teams that want to do the same thing, run the football effectively. The team who is able to continually run the ball with success will likely pull out a win in this one, but I think it is likely that both defenses will have their hands full in this hard fought game.
