Dolphins Chiefs Line

Written by

The Kansas City Chiefs will go for their fifth consecutive win this Sunday when they host the winless Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs got some help from the Chargers in their 23-20 overtime win on Monday Night Football, as San Diego fumbled on the Kansas City 15-yard line with  just second left in a 20-20 tie. The win was the Chiefs fourth in a row after starting the season 0-3, and they are now tied with Oakland and San Diego on top the AFC West. The Dolphins are simply looking to find a way to win a game. Miami blew another late lead in a 17-20 loss to the Giants, leaving them 0-7 on the year.

Taking a look at the week 9 NFL spreads, oddsmakers currently have the Chiefs favored by 4-points over the Dolphins with the total set at 40 points.

Miami Dolphins:

After blowing a 15-point lead in the final minutes of regulation against the Broncos in week 8, Miami was unable to protect a 17-0 fourth quarter lead against the Giants this past weekend.

The biggest problem the Dolphins have had this season is finding a way to put points on the scoreboard. Miami hasn’t scored more than 17 points in a single game since putting up just 24 in an opening week loss to the Patriots.  It looked as though Miami was ready to break out offensively after scoring two touchdowns on their first two drives against the Giants, but were only able to manage a field goal the rest of the way.

Matt Moore had another miserable day throwing the football, completing just 13 of 22 attempts for 138 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Moore has just one touchdown to four interceptions in four games this season. He better take care of the football against a Kansas City defense that has intercepted eight passes the last two games.

With rookie running back Daniel Thomas a no go for the game against New York, Reggie Bush stepped in and ran for 103 yards on 15 attempts.  With Thomas listed as questionable and the way Moore has struggle throwing the ball, Miami really needs Bush to step up with another big performance against the Chiefs. Kansas City is 22nd against the run, allowing 122.1 yards per game.

Kansas City Chiefs:

While the Chiefs escaped with a miracle win against the Chargers last week, they have to make sure they come ready to play against a hungry Dolphins team that is fighting to get that first win of the season. With Denver on the schedule next week, Kansas City has a great opportunity to get to 6-3.

The Chiefs offense came in bunches against the Chargers. Kansas City too a 10-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, but could barely make a first down in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

Matt Cassel finished 19 of 32 for 261 yards with just one touchdown to two interceptions. One of those interceptions came at the end of regulation when the Chiefs were desperately trying to get into field goal range.

While Kansas City finished with just 94 rushing yards on 32 attempts (2.9 avg), Jackie Battle fought his way for 70 yards and a touchdown. Battle could be in for another long afternoon against the Dolphins, who come in giving up just 109.9 yards per game.

The player that really stepped up for Kansas City was rookie wide out Jonathan Baldwin. IN just his second professional game, Baldwin caught five passes for 82 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown catch that put the Chiefs up 10-0. Baldwin and Pro Bowl wide out Dwayne Bowe could be in for a big day against a Miami defense that comes in allowing 270.7 passing yards a game.

Betting Trends:

Miami is 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games as an underdog.

Kansas City is 4-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
