Miami Dolphins vs. St Louis Rams NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 28, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Sunday the Miami Dolphins will look to improve their playoff chances when they take on the St Louis Rams, as the Rams pushed their losing streak to 5 games last week with a 27-3 loss to the Bears. The Dolphins found out what its like to play the improved Matt Cassel, as Cassel threw for over 400 yards for the 2nd straight week, as the Patriots blew out the Dolphins 48-28. For those of you looking to bet on the NFL this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Dolphins 8 point favorites over the Rams at Bookmaker.com

Now the Dolphins offense did its best it could to keep them in the game last week, as they kept it with in striking distance most of the way, and actually trailed by just 3 points after an early 4th quarter touchdown from Chad Pennington to Ricky Williams. Pennington actually had himself quite the day throwing for 341 yards and 3 scores, but the real story was the Dolphins running game, as Ronnie Brown had just 37 on the ground, and Williams wasn’t much better running for just 21. Now if the Dolphins are going to go into St Louis and beat up on the Rams, they have to get the running game going, and with it being the Rams, that should be no problem.

The Dolphins defense wasn’t much to speak of last week, as the Patriots had over 500 yards of total offense, as Cassel completed 30 of 43 passes for 415 yards including 3 scoring strikes to Randy Moss, who the Dolphins had no answer for in the passing game. The Dolphins also allowed the Patriots to run for over a 100 yards on the ground, and its a little confusing on what happened, as the Dolphins have been real solid on this side of the ball. Look for this unit to bounce back big this week, as the Rams are really struggling to score this season. Bet Dolphins -8 at Bookmaker.com

Well things just haven’t been going good for the Rams, as they failed to score a touchdown in any way for the 3rd time this season, as they just couldn’t get anything going against the Bears last week. Now the Rams have been without Steven Jackson for 3 weeks now, and it doesn’t look good for him to be back against the Dolphins. Last week the Rams had just 14 yards on the ground, and had 4 different players attempt passes, so its easy to see the kind of troubles this unit is having. If Jackson doesn’t make it back this week, its hard to imagine this offense doing much of anything against the Dolphins this week.

Now the defense isn’t helping matters with their play, as they were unable to do much of anything to stop the Bears rushing attack, as Matt Forte led the way with 132 yards and 2 scores, as the Bears wound up running for over 200 yards in this one. The defense did create two turnovers off of fumbles, so at least they did something right in this one. Now the Rams have surprised everyone twice this season when they beat the Cowboys and Redskins in back to back weeks, but without Jackson this team has little chance of winning the rest of the way out.
