Duke v. Miami Football Preview & Predictions

The Miami Hurricanes go on the road to take on the Duke Blue Devils this week. Although just 3-3, the Canes still have much more talent than Duke. Miami lost two close games against North Carolina and Florida State, both of which are good teams. Look for Miami to have too much speed on the defensive side of the ball and that is why Jay Todd is taking the Canes with his college football picks this week. The Hurricane offense is led by quarterback Robert Marve. Marve is a big time gun-slinger and now us six games under his belt. Look for this to be the game Marve turns the corner and becomes the quarterback that Hurricane fans have waited for.

The running game has been the key part of the Cane offense. Graig Cooper is averaging five yards per carry and has found the end zone four times so far. Cooper has just as much talent as any running back in the nation. Last year against this same Duke team, Cooper rushed for 101 yards on just 12 carries and also recorded a rushing score. Duke is giving up over 160 yards on the ground per game this year and has allowed over 200 rushing yards each game. Look for that trend to continue as Cooper will see around 20 carries.

The Hurricane defense has been very strong so far this year. Duke lacks a strong running game, so do not expect them to put up big numbers on the ground against a Cane defense that allows just 95.7 rushing per game. Miami will also put a lot of pressure on Duke Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis. They have recorded 14 sacks so far this season.

The fact of the matter is Duke just isn’t all that good of a football team. Miami has better athletes at each and every position. Look for that to be all that is needed for the Canes to cruise in this one. Take the college football odds on Miami -4.5 vs. Duke.
