Eagles Bills Odds

Both the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills have produced surprising results through the first quarter of the season. Buffalo (3-1) was expected to finish last in the AFC East, but they find themselves atop the division standings. Philadelphia (1-3) spent more money than any other team in the league this offseason. They were predicted to win the NFC East, but they are now dead-last in the division. These two teams collide Sunday at 1:00 EST inside Ralph Wilson Stadium.
According to the odds in Las Vegas, they have set a line of Philadelphia -3 over Buffalo with a total set of 49.5 points.
Philadelphia
The Eagles lived up to their nickname of “Dream Team” when they throttled the St. Louis Rams 31-13 on the road in their opener. They have looked like anything but a dream team ever since. Philly would squander a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter to lose at Atlanta 35-31 in Week 2. They were embarrassed 29-16 at home against the New York Giants in Week 3, and let another big lead slip away last week. Philly led San Francisco 23-3 with a little over nine minutes remaining in the third quarter, but that’s when it all fell apart.
The 49ers would score 21 unanswered points behind two touchdown passes from Alex Smith and a 12-yard touchdown run from Frank Gore with just 3:00 minutes to go, giving them a 24-23 lead. Jeremy Maclin fumbled with just 2:06 left as the Eagles were driving for a potential game-winning field goal, and the 49ers ran out the clock from there. It was one of three turnovers for Philly, while rookie kicker Alex Henery also missed field goal attempts from 39 and 33 yards in the final period. Philly has now been outscored 36-0 in the fourth quarter during their three-game skid.
Philadelphia’s offense has put up big numbers this year, as they rank 4th in the league in total offense (434.7 yards/game). Michael Vick is completing 61.2 percent of his passes for 1,021 yards and six touchdowns to three interceptions, while also rushing for 228 yards. He needs to take care of the football, though. Vick has fumbled six times, but luckily he’s only lost two of them. LeSean McCoy has a team-high 363 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and Jeremy Maclin leads the team with 26 receptions for 334 yards and two scores. The Philly defense ranks 16th in the league (357.3 yards/game). They will be without DE Trent Cole Sunday, who is arguably their best defender. Fellow DE’s Darryl Tapp and Juqua Parker are questionable. On offense, tackle Jason Peters is doubtful with a hamstring injury.
Buffalo
The Bills have been perhaps the biggest surprise in the league. Buffalo opened their season with a dominant 41-7 victory at Kansas City, but they still hadn’t made a believer out of many folks just yet. Trailing 21-3 at halftime to Oakland in Week 2, the Bills came all the way back and won 38-35 thanks to a 6-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick to David Nelson on fourth down with just 14 seconds remaining. They pulled off another improbable comeback in Week 3, beating the Patriots 34-31 despite trailing 21-0 to open the game.
Buffalo seemed to have no thoughts of a letdown on their minds when they jumped out to a 17-3 lead over Cincinnati last week by halftime. But the Bengals would claw their way back to tie it, and they won the game 23-20 with a Mike Nugent 43-yard field goal as time expired. Cincinnati outgained Buffalo 458-273 for the game and certainly gave the Bills a taste of their own medicine with a huge second half rally.
The Bills rank 9th in the league in total offense (391.5 yards/game), but just 27th in total defense (405.0 yards/game). Ryan Fitzpatrick is off to a stellar start at quarterback, completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 1,040 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions. Fred Jackson may be the most underrated player in the league. He has rushed for 369 yards and four touchdowns, while also catching 13 balls for 147 yards. Steve Johnson leads the team with 24 receptions for 314 yards and three touchdowns, and David Nelson is not far behind with 22 grabs for 251 yards and a score. Tight end Scott Chandler has a team-high four touchdowns catches as well.
