Eagles Cowboys Line
Written by Steve Janus
The Dallas Cowboys will host the Philadelphia Eagles in a crucial week 16 NFC East matchup. The Cowboys 31-15 win over the Buccaneers coupled with the Giants 10-23 loss at home to the Redskins has them in the drivers seat with two games to go. Another Cowboys win and Giants loss and Dallas will have secured the division title. That’s if the Cowboys can get past the Eagles. Philadelphia already beat Dallas 34-7 and aren’t completely out of the division just yet. If the Eagles win their final two games over Dallas and Washington, the Giants lose to the Jets, and the Cowboys fall to the Giants in week 17, Philadelphia will somehow make the playoffs.
Taking a look at the week 16 NFL spreads, oddsmakers currently have the Cowboys favored by just 1.5-points over the Eagles with the total set at 50.5 points.
Philadelphia Eagles:
The Eagles are finally starting to look like the team that everyone expected to see from the very beginning. Philadelphia went on the road and blew out the Dolphins 26-10 in week 14 and then backed that up with a 45-19 thrashing of the Jets last week. I believe the Eagles are holding onto to that glimpse of hope that they can still make the playoffs. They might lose all hope before the game even starts. The Giants and Jets game will likely be over by the time their games starts. If the Giants win, this game will become meaningless to the Eagles.
In their last game against the Jets, Michael Vick throw for 274 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 32 yards and a score. It was Vick’s first rushing touchdown of the season, well off his pace of nine from last year. LeSean McCoy added 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 18 carries, while tight end Brent Celek caught five passes for 156 yards and a score.
It wasn’t too far off from the Eagles impressive performance against the Cowboys earlier this season. Back in week 8 the Eagles put up 495 yards of total offense on the Cowboys. Vick completed 21 of 28 attempts for 279 yards and two touchdowns and McCoy carried it 30 times for 185 yards and two scores. Celek had a game-high seven catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Dallas Cowboys:
The Cowboys really came out sharp against the Buccaneers last week, and it was exactly what this team needed after blowing back-to-back games against the Cardinals and Giants. Beating a Buccaneers team that is completely out of the playoff picture is one thing, beating the Eagles is another, especially after how bad they played against them the first time.
Offensively the Cowboys did pretty much whatever they wanted against the Buccaneers. Tony Romo finished 23 of 30 for 249 yards and three touchdowns. Jason Witten had a team high 77-yards on four catches, while Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, and Laurent Robinson all finished with a touchdown grab.
Dallas also had a good game running the ball. Felix Jones led the way with 108 yards on 22 attempts and backup Sammy Morris added another 53 yards on 12 carries. The only rushing touchdown on the day went to Romo, who scored on a 1-yard run to put the Cowboys up 28-0.
Things were so easy when they played the Eagles earlier this season. Romo went just 18 of 35 for 203 yards with one touchdown and one interception, and the Cowboys were held to just 85 yards on the ground. Dallas trailed 14-0 by the end of the first quarter and was unable to stick with the ground game. They needed just 10 carries to get to 85 yards the first time around. For Dallas to win this game they are going to need to establish Jones and keep the Eagles offense off the field.
Betting Trends:
Philadelphia is 15-6 ATS in their last 21 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Dallas is 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games as a home favorite.

Got something to say?

While I recognize the Eagles are a long shot, Philly Fans should not get their hopes too high. The Eagles are just now getting it together it seems, too little, too late.
I believe the Super Bowl will host the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburg Stealers. Hope next year bears fruit in Philadelphia. I am a die hard Philly Fan. I just pray the Eagles give Dallas a huge butt kicking just to keep Jerry Jones on the list of people to worry. I don’t care for him at all.
Good Luck to the participents.
