Eagles Dolphins Odds

The Miami Dolphins host the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday in a match-up between two teams that won’t be going to the postseason. Philadelphia has been fading fast, while Miami has played some of the best football in the league over the last month. The Eagles have won both meetings with the Dolphins since the turn of the century. That includes a 17-7 home victory in their most recent meeting in 2007.
Taking a look at the lines for Week 14, I find a spread of Miami -3 over Philadelphia.
Miami
The Dolphins deserve a lot of credit for the way they have battled following their 0-7 start. Miami (4-8, 3-3 home) has won four of their last five games, with their only loss coming 20-19 to the Dallas Cowboys on a last-second field goal. They have only allowed a total of four touchdowns in their last five games, and an average of 10.8 points/game during this stretch. They are also scoring 27.8 points/game over their last five contests.
Miami is coming off a 34-14 home victory over the Oakland Raiders last Sunday. It was a complete team effort as the Dolphins outgained the Raiders 362-304. They rushed for 209 yards as a team, including 100 and a touchdown from Reggie Bush. Daniel Thomas added 73 yards on 13 carries as the Dolphins won the line of scrimmage all day. Matt Moore threw for 162 yards and a score, while also rushing for another. Kevin Burnett returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown for Miami’s final score, which put them up 34-0 near the end of the third quarter.
The Dolphins rank 21st in the league in total offense (320.2 yards/game) and 15th in total defense (342.1 yards/game). Moore has been a life saver since taking over at starting quarterback, completing 61.9 percent of his passes for 1,769 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Bush has a team-high 667 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, and Thomas has rushed for 504 yards as well. Brandon Marshall is having a solid season with 63 receptions for 910 yards and three scores.
Philadelphia
The Eagles have been on an absolute free fall in the NFC East. Philadelphia (4-8, 3-3 away) has lost four of their last five games to play themselves out of playoff contention. They are three games back in the division with only four to play. Michael Vick has missed the last three games with two fractured ribs, but he returned to practice Monday and is expected to play against the Dolphins. The problem is that it’s too little, too late.
Philadelphia saw their chances of making the playoffs take a big hit by losing 31-14 at Seattle last Thursday. Vince Young single-handedly gave the game away by throwing four interceptions, one of which was returned 74 yards for a touchdown by David Hawthorne. LeSean McCoy rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown, while also catching four balls for 49 yards and another score to build on what has already been an impressive 2011 campaign.
The Eagles rank 3rd in the NFL in total offense (412.6 yards/game) and 17th in total defense (344.8 yards/game). As of this writing, McCoy leads the NFL in rushing with 1,134 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is 94 yards ahead of Maurice Jones-Drew, who plays the Chargers tonight and could overtake him. Vick is completing 60.3 percent of his passes for 2,193 yards with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. DeSean Jackson has 43 receptions for 698 yards and two scores to lead the team in receiving. He has been and will be criticized all week for the way he appeared to “dog it” on a few routes against the Seahawks.
Betting Trends
The Dolphins are 34-54 ATS in their last 88 home games in the second half of the season.
Andy Reid is 29-16 ATS as a road underdog of 7 points or less as the coach of Philadelphia.
Got something to say?
