Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Now all the news surrounding the New York Giants this week is with what has happened with star receiver Plaxico Burress, as his latest club altercation where he wound up shooting himself in the leg has landed him off the Giants team for the remainder of the season, but the Giants still have to play football this weekend against division rival Philadelphia. Now the Eagles have enough problems of their own, as they are likely out of the playoffs, but they were impressive last week beating the Cardinals 48-20 at home. The Giants seem to win no matter what happens to them, and last week they made easy work of the Redskins 23-7. Now the Eagles still got a shot when it comes to the playoffs, but that means they have to win on the road this week, or its pretty much game over. Last week after all the speculation about whether McNabb would get benched if he didn’t perform, was put to rest for now, as McNabb had 260 yards passing with 4 touchdowns and most importantly for his sake no turnovers. Brian Westbrook looked like the star back everyone is use to watching, as he had 110 yards rushing for 2 scores, and another 2 scores on 20 yards receiving. Now if the offense could play like this the rest of the way, this team would still be in it, but there is talk Westbrook might not play, and without him this offense just doesn’t have enough talent to compete.
Now the Eagles defense did a great job against the Cardinals high flying passing attack last week, as they forced Kurt Warner into throwing 3 interceptions in this one, and by the time Warner got things going, it was pretty much out of hand. The Eagles completely shut down the Cardinals run game in this one, as they gave up just 25 yards on 10 carries, as it was all pass for the Cardinals. This week they face a much more balanced offensive attack of the Giants, and its hard telling just what this unit has to do to stop these guys, as they seem to do whatever it takes to win. Now it’s going to be interesting to see how the Giants respond to all the distractions going on this week when it’s actually time to step on the field, but the way this team is prepared each week makes us think they will have no trouble coming out ready to play. Last week against the Redskins the running game had its struggles, as the Redskins held the Giants to just 108 yards on the ground, but Jacobs was still able to find the endzone in this one. Eli Manning through for 305 yards, including a touchdown strike to likely his new favorite target veteran Amani Toomer. Now if the Eagles have Westbrook its likely this unit is going to have to find a way to put points on the board in this one, but for a team that has won 7 straight its hard to figure out just how these guys are going to lose.
Now even if Westbrook is able to go in this one, we don’t think the Eagles will be throwing up 6 offensive touchdowns like the did last week, as the Giants defense plays as a team better than any other team in this league. Last week against the Redskins they had 4 sacks, an interception, and 2 forced fumbles, as they allowed the Redskins to score just once on a 29 yard run by rookie receiver Devin Thomas. With the offense losing one of their weapons again this week, we look for the defense to pick up their play and carry this team to yet another division win. Bet Giants -6.5 at BetUS.com
