Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Redskins NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 18, 2008 by Jason Lowry

There were few that thought the Philadelphia Eagles had a chance of making the playoffs after their dismal performance against the Bengals that wound up in a tie, but if the Eagles just keep on winning and a team falls in the final two weeks, they could sneak in. First thing first the Eagles have to head on the road to take on division rival Washington, where the Redskins look to at least finish the season strong, as they are no longer in the playoff hunt. Last week the Eagles beat up on the Browns 30-10, while the Redskins faltered big time on the road against the Beglas 13-20. The Eagles have now one 3 straight, and they are winning these games pretty convincingly. Last week Donovan McNabb threw for 290 yards and scores, while Correll Buckhalter and Brian Westrbook combined to run for over 100 yards in this one. Now Westbrook came into this one two huge games, and the fact that the team still scored 30 points without him finding the endzone, lets you know just how good these guys are playing on this side of the ball. Jason Avant had a big day catching the football, as he hauled in 5 passes for 101 yards and rookied DeSean Jackson wasn’t far behind with 77. If the offense just keeps playing like it has been over the last few weeks, we don’t see any reason why the Eagles can’t come away with another win this weekend.
The Eagles defense has been playing just as good as the offense has, and last week they made sure a depleted Browns team had no chance in this one. Asante Samuel helped out that cause when he took an interception 50 yards back for touchdown, as the Eagles forced two interceptions on the day. Now these two teams already faced once this season with the Redskins winning at Philly 23-17, so you have to think this unit is going to come in fired up and ready to seek revenge. Now the Redskins were right in the thick of things heading into their game last week against the Bengals, but this team simply came out flat and really let their fans down with the performance they gave. The offense wasn’t much to speak of as their only score came on a 1o yard pass from Jason Campbell to Santana Moss in the 2nd quarter. Campbell wound up only throwing for 167 yards, while the running game of Clinton Portis just never found its groove, as the star back had just 77 yards on 25 attempts, numbers you would expect to be much better against a team that had only won 1 game all season. Now the Redskins aren’t playing good football, and its hard to imagine this team waking up and actually coming to play this week, but maybe playing against a division rival will get them fired up.
Now the defense didn’t play well in this one, but when your offense scores only 10 points the whole game its hard to put the blame on just one side of the ball. The Redskins let Ryan Fitzpatrick complete 16 of 29 passes for 209 yards and a score, and had no answer for running back Cedric Benson who had a team best 73 yards on the ground and 88 through the air. The key for the Redskins is making sure Westbrook doesn’t go off in this one, and hoping that McNabb struggles, but with the way the Eagles are playing we just don’t see that happening.
