Philadelphia Eagles 2009 Super Bowl Odds

Eagles Football

The Philadelphia Eagles are once again headed to the NFC Championship game, as this will be the 5th time Donovan McNabb and the Eagles will be headed to this game in the last 8 years. Only once have they reached the Super Bowl in this span, and after all the doubting that fans and critics have gave McNabb and head coach Andy Reid, this could be their chance to prove everyone wrong and finally win a Super Bowl. This has been an up and down season for the Eagles, who started the season 5-5-1, but after McNabb got benched against the Ravens in week 12 this team seemed to find new life. The Eagles then rolled off 3 straight wins, but in week 16 they failed to score an offensive touchdown against the Redskins and it looked like their season was over, as they needed a number of things to go their way in the final week of the season. To the Eagles surprise everything went as planned, and all that was left to do was beat the Cowboys at home and they were the NFC No. 6 seed, and they did just that in convincing fashion, with a 44-6 win over Dallas. For those of you looking do a little NFL betting on the Eagles chances this postseason, the oddsmakers have the Philadelphia Eagles +200 to win the Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com.

In the wild card round the Eagles had a hard fought battle with the Vikings, as they had just a 16-14 edge heading into the 4th quarter, and had yet to score an offensive touchdown, as their only score other than a David Akers field goal came on a 31 yard interception return for a touchdown by Asante Samuel. In the 4th quarter the offense finally got something going, as Brian Westbrook took a McNabb pass 71 yards for a score and Akers connected on his fourth field goal of the game to give the Eagles a 26-14 victory. The defense was pretty solid in this one, and though they let Peterson score twice and run for 83 yards, it was all the Vikings offense could come up with, as they failed to score at all in the 2nd half.

Against the Giants last week it wasn’t exactly pretty, as McNabb threw for 217 yards with just 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions, and the most surprising stat in this one, was the Eagles were able to win with star running back Brian Westbrook gaining just 46 yards of total offense. The Eagles got touchdowns on a 1 yards run by McNabb in the first and a 1 yard pass from McNabb to Brent Celek in the 4th, and got 3 more field goals off the foot of Akers, as the Eagles wound up winning 23-11. The defense was outstanding in this one holding the Giants to just 3 field goals on offense, and forcing 3 turnovers, including 2 interceptions off Eli Manning, as the Eagles beat the Giants for the 2nd straight time on their home field this season.

The Eagles will once again have to win on the road, as they must travel to take on the Arizona Cardinals, who surprised everyone with their 33-13 blowout win against the Panthers. The Eagles faced the Cardinals back in week 13 and wound up destroying them 48-20, but we wouldn’t take much from that game, as the Cardinals are almost a complete different team on the road than they are at home. As of right now you can bet on the Philadelphia Eagles -3 over the Arizona Cardinals at Sportsbook.com.
