Week 8 NFL action has the Philadelphia Eagles (3-3) hosting the surprise team of the league in the Atlanta Falcons (4-2). Both teams come into this one off their bye week and both off big time wins. For the Falcons they needed a ridiculous 11 second drive for a field goal against the Bears to take home a big win at home, while the Eagles needed a 4th quarter surge over the 49ers to avoid from losing 3 straight. Considering that both the Falcons losses have came on the road this season, the oddsmakers don’t see them having much of a chance at all, as the Eagles come in 9 point favorites over the Falcons at Bookmaker.com
Falcons fans really have to love what they see in quarterback Matt Ryan and the same has to go for receiver Roddy White who has racked up some big time yardage this season. Ryan throw for 301 yards against the Bears, and 9 of his completions went to White who had 112 yards and a touchdown. Michael Turner continues to be hit or miss, as he had just 54 yards against the Bears after running for 121 yards the previous week. If Turner continues his trend of one stellar game followed by an average showing, Turner should be ready for a big time performance against the Eagles this weekend. With the Eagles well rested points could be really hard to come by for the Falcons.

With the offense possibly facing some struggles, its going to be up to the defense to keep the Eagles in check this weekend. The Falcons defense has been pretty solid this season, as they are giving up the 5th fewest yards a game at 274. The Falcons have been at their best against the pass, as they are allowing teams just 170 yards through the air. With the Eagles possibly getting Brian Westbrook back this week, it might be a bigger concern at how well they can stop the run. Bet Falcons +9 at Bookmaker.com
The Eagles offense sure would like to see Westbrook back in action this week, as they just aren’t that same explosive unit as they are when Westbrook is on the field. So while you might wonder how the offense is struggling if they put up 40 points on the Niners, most of those points came off the 3 turnovers the defense created in the 4th quarter, as the Eagles actually trailed 26-17 after 3 quarters of play. Though McNabb threw an interception in this one, he did have a pretty good game considering he remains without his two starting receivers coming into the season, as he threw for 280 yards and 2 scores. A big reason that McNabb is still having his usual success is the play of rookie receiver DeSean Jackson who led the way with 6 catches for 98 yards against the 49ers. If Westbrook is unable to go look for the Eagles to try and get the same kind of performance out of Correll Buckhalter, who had 178 yards of total offense and one score.
Though we already mentioned how well the Falcons defense has played this season, the Eagles defense has played just as well if not better, as they are giving up just 266 yards of total offense, and are equally as good against the pass as they are against the run. The fact that this defense stepped up when needed and brought the Eagles a win in their last game, has to have Eagles fans loving this teams chances of climbing back to the top of the NFC East.
