Falcons at Patriots Spread

Falcons Patriots Point SpreadTwo of the most prolific offenses in the game square off when the Atlanta Falcons travel to face the New England Patriots in Foxboro. We have proven quarterback Tom Brady against up-and-coming QB Matt Ryan. NFL spreads on this game are already posted, and the lines makers have listed New England -4 over Atlanta with a Total Set of 46.5 points.

The Patriots are 1-1 after losing to the Jets 16-9 last week. So far, Tom Brady has not been able to get this offense going. New England was expected to run away with the AFC East with the healthy return of Brady, but so far that’s far from the case. This young Patriots’ secondary struggled to slow down Mark Sanchez and the Jets’ offense in the second half last week. Now they must deal with another young quarterback in Matt Ryan, who is quickly becoming one of the best in the league at his position. Wes Welker missed last week after catching 11 balls in Week 1 and 111 all of last season. He status remains uncertain, and Brady really needs him out there so the Falcons can’t give Randy Moss so much attention. Moss was limited to four catches for 24 yards last week, while Julian Edelman and Joey Galloway combined for 13 catches. Those two need to come up big if Welker can’t go.

Ryan won the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award last season, and so far he has not disappointed. He has thrown 5 TD passes to just 1 interception, and his favorite target has been newly acquired Tony Gonzalez. The Falcons’ tight end has already caught 12 balls for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns from Ryan. Atlanta’s defense is their biggest weakness, giving up 144 rushing yards to Carolina last week along with 308 passing yards from Jake Delhomme. New England needs to find a way to run the ball, because the Falcons are susceptible to the ground game. They lost first-round pick Peria Jerry for the season with a knee injury suffered last week, opening up an even bigger hole in the middle. The Pats won the last meeting of this series in 2005 by a final of 31-28. Brady completed 22-of-27 passes for 350 yards and three touchdowns. But it’s clear the Falcons are a force to be reckoned with and the Patriots will have their hands full if they are to avoid falling to 1-2.
