2011 Farmers Insurance Open Predictions

Rookie Jhonattan Vegas won the 2011 Bob Hope Classic by outlasting Bill Haas and Gary Woodland in a playoff for his first career PGA Tour win. Vegas along with some of the biggest names in the sport get ready to attack Torrey Pines at the 2011 Farmers Insurance Open.
The tournament is set to begins Thursday, January 27 and will conclude on Sunday, January 30. For the first two rounds golfers will split their 36 holes between the North and South courses of Torrey Pins. For those who make the cut an play into the weekend they will play on just the South course, which is where the 2008 U.S. Open was held.
While there has been plenty of great action over the first few weeks of the 2011 season, this week’s event figures to draw a huge crowd as both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson make their 2011 debuts.
Here is a look at the three golfers I think have a great shot at winning this week, plus their odds to win.
Tiger Woods: It was a dreadful 2010 for the most recognized golfer in the world, as Tiger failed to win a single event. This guy is simply too good at what he does, and I have a good feeling 2011 is going to start off fast with a big win in his first event of the season. Tiger has won this event in each of his last four starts, and has seven career wins at Torrey Pines, including the 2008 U.S. Open. Woods holds the South Course record at 62, and I just think this is the perfect setting for Woods to prove to the world that he is still the best there is at the game today.
Rickie Fowler: Here is a guy who really made a name for himself in 2010 with a great rookie season that earned him the 2010 Rookie of the Year honors. Fowler didn’t get a win in his first season, but had seven top 10 finishes, including a tie for fifth at this event. Fowler definitely has the game to win on tour, and don’t be surprised if he is right there with a chance to win come Sunday!
Charles Howell III: Here is a guy that has routinely had success at this event, yet still isn’t getting a whole lot of credit when it comes to the odds to win this thing. Howell III has made the cut in each of his eight starts at this event and finished in the top 10 four times, including two runner-up finishes. He finished tied for ninth at this event in 2010 and is coming off a pretty good showing at the Bob Hope Classic last week, where he finished tied for 13th. If you are looking for a big return on your investment without laying a ton down, take Howell III this weekend.
