Best Fastbreak Teams in the NBA

For those of you who like doing NBA betting on totals, knowing which teams generate the most fastbreak points can center you in on matchups between two teams like like to run, or two teams that like to slow it down. This is a helpful tool to know what the pace of the game should be and thus, if it’s more likely to go over or under the posted total. Let’s take a look at the top five teams in terms of fastbreak points per game.
Philadelphia 76ers – 18.1 fastbreak points per game
The 76ers were third in fastbreak points a year ago and are leading the league this year, but odds makers have adjusted as Philadelphia has gone UNDER 33 times to only 24 OVERS. Without Elton Brand Philadelphia hasn’t wanted to get into many halfcourt games, and the team has the worst 3-point percentage in the league.
Golden State Warriors – 17.8 fastbreak points per game
No surprise here as Don Nelson has always liked to get out and run. Last year the team led the league in fastbreak points at nearly 23 points per game. At home the team likes to run a little more, with 22 fastbreak points but on the raod the team is generated less than 15 points. That has led to a lot of OVERs at home and a lot of road UNDERs.
Phoenix Suns – 15.9 fastbreak points per game
Terry Porter was brought on board to get this team focused on defense and running half-court sets, but obviously he didn’t make it past the All-Star break. Now under Alvin Gentry the team is back running and gunning. The Suns have gone OVER 36 times already this year while UNDER only 26.
Denver Nuggets – 15.8 fastbreak points per game
Even without Allen Iverson, the Nuggets have still been a fast paced team under the direction of Chauncey Billups. The team shoots the ball well from the outside and has hte fourth-best defensive field goal percentage in the league. Add the ability to run the break and this team could be a surprise out West.
Dallas Mavericks – 15.7 fastbreak points per game
When this team plays in Dallas, they average 19 fastbreak points per game and have gone over 19 out of 32 times. On the road though this team is putting up only 12 points per game and that’s a big reason the Mavs are 11-20 UNDER on the road.
Who is the worst team at scoring on the break? The Toronto Raptors at 8.6 points per game.
