FBR Open Predictions & Odds
Written by Jason Lowry

It was just what we expected last week at the Bob Hope Classic as golfers lit up the course with birdie after birdie, and Pat Perez was the big winner after shooting a 5 round total of 33 under to win by 3 strokes over John Merrick. This week the PGA TOUR stays out west, as golfers head to Scottsdale, Arizona for the 2009 FBR Open. Defending champion JB Holmes will look to make it two in a row, after holding off Phil Mickelson in a playoff last year, but all eyes will be focused on Mickelson, who makes his 2009 debut. Once again golfers are treated to a friendly course that allows for more low scoring, and one of the more entertaining events of the season, as the FBR Open is the most attended golf tournament of the season. To help you get going on the upcoming tournament here is a look at the 3 golfers we think have the best shot at taking home the trophy this weekend.
Phil Mickelson +800 at Sportsbook.com
Its hard to argue with picking Mickelson this week, as this guy is not only one of the best golfers in the world, but has really played well here at TPC Scottsdale in his career. Mickelson just missed a win here last season, and besides the win in 2005, he won back in 1996. With this being his first event of the year, some might think there could be a little rust to his game, but these guys are constantly working on their game whether they are in action each weekend or not. We expect a great showing from Mickelson this weekend, as he will have an enormous crowd base following him each and every day.
Mike Weir +2000 at Sportsbook.com
Weir had a great start to the season finishing in a tie for 3rd at the Bob Hope Classic last week, and had one of the best rounds of the tournament with his 62 in the opening round. Weir hasn’t played his best golf here over the last couple years, finishing tied for 32nd two years ago, and tied for 43rd a year ago, but we got a real good feeling that Weir comes through with a very strong performance this weekend, and wouldn’t be surprised at all if he is right in the thick of things comes the final round on Sunday.
JB Holmes +4000 at Sportsbook.com
How could you not include the guy that has won this event twice in the past 3 years, and we are actually shocked that he doesn’t have better odds to win this weekend, after the way he has played here lately. Holmes did miss the cut back in 2007, but Holmes took last week off and we expect yet another strong performance on arguably his best course, as his only two career wins have came her at the FBR open.
