Final Four Betting: Who Has the Edge
Written March 31, 2009 by Michael Alexander
The teams are set and Final Four betting is about to begin. Two of the four teams come from the Big East, which most pundits have agreed all year to be the best conference in college basketball. From now until Saturday, when the games actually tip off, you will be able to read all kinds of information that is geared towards helping you make accurate NCAA basketball picks. What you need to understand is that picking the winners for the final games involves looking at the matchups, motivation, injuries, and some history. A great place to bet the Final Four is BetUS, where a $500 deposit will net you a $500 bonus!
Although there are other components you have to look at when breaking down the college basketball odds, historical trends and angles can give you an edge prior to looking deeper into each matchup. Michael Alexander has done a great job of employing this type of strategy through the years so he’s going to break down some interesting trends to give our readers a chance to come out on top to end their season.
Only two underdogs have won the Championship Game both SU and ATS since 2000. That’s a 2-7 record for 22% and the winners were Kansas in 2008 and Syracuse back in 2003. Since 1998 when a higher seed plays a lower seed (Michigan State/Villanova) the higher seed is 17-8 both SU and ATS. Favorites of 6.5 or more in the Final Four are 9-7 SU but only 3-13 ATS. Favorites of between four and six points are 16-5 both SU and ATS in the Final Four. No. 3 seeds are 13-7 ATS since 1997. Any No. 1 seed that is listed as an underdog to a lower seed is 10-3 ATS over the past 13 chances (although probably won’t see this in 2009).
Hopefully some of these trends will give you a head start for your 2009 Final Four handicapping. Good luck and if you need a little extra help, consider signing up for a package of picks from Michael Alexander.
