Florida at LSU Football Odds
Written October 7, 2009 by Rock Henderson
The marquee match-up of week 6 will go down in the bayou when the #1 Florida Gators travel to Death Valley to take on the #4 LSU Tigers. Much of the news surrounding this game will be focused on how Tim Tebow bounces back from the concussion he sustained against Kentucky. LSU finally showed what type of team they are capable of being with their 20-13 victory at Georgia. Urban Meyer and the Gators will have had two weeks to prepare for the Tigers. Night games at Tiger Stadium showcase one of the most intimidating atmospheres in college football and Saturday night should be no exception. Florida is an 8 point favorite according to the latest NCAA football betting lines, though this could change pending a more definitive report on Tim Tebow.
After much speculation about how good his 2009 LSU Tiger team really was, Les Miles’ crew finally played up to its billing in the Georgia game. RB Charles Scott came to life for the first time this season and rushed for a team high 95 yards and two touchdowns; including the game winner with 46 seconds to go. The Tiger offense was expected to run wild with Scott, Keiland Williams and Trindon Holliday but the ground game had yet to surface until last weekend. Sophomore QB Jordan Jefferson has been efficient behind center, throwing for 920 yards and seven touchdowns with just two interceptions. Jefferson’s main target is WR Brandon LaFell, who has been the recipient of five touchdown passes. The LSU defense is its usual self with an athletic bunch that is allowing only 14.8 points per contest. They held Georgia to just 45 yards rushing but will have their hands full with Florida’s spread option attack.

When Tim Tebow was knocked unconscious two weeks ago and you could see the concern on Florida fans immediately. The injury looked ugly and Florida’s quest for back to back titles could have ended on that one play. Urban Meyer has been quoted as saying that Tebow is ahead of schedule in his recovery but concussions are something you don’t mess around with. If the Florida QB is unable to play, the Gators will go with third year quarterback John Brantley. The running game will be a point of emphasis once again with lighting quick backs Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey. The pair have combined for 565 yards and six touchdowns. Running back Emmanuel Moody provides tough running between the tackles and is a nice change of pace back for the two speedsters. One thing is for sure, the Florida D is healthy and might be the best unit in the nation. Led by MLB Brandon Spikes, the Gators have 11 starters on defense that fly to the ball and will be NFL bound soon.
Florida blasted LSU last year 51-21 in a game that was only a six point deficit midway through the third quarter. The public obviously believes that Tebow will not be cleared to play as the line opened at 11.5 and quickly moved to 8.5. The road team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two power houses. I believe LSU has the speed on offense to slow down Florida and their running game looks to be back on track. The home crowd should be a huge factor this weekend also. Play: LSU +8.5
