Florida vs Vanderbilt College Football Odds

Written November 6, 2009 by Hector Garza

While Florida has been tested this year, they’re not expecting much of a challenge when they play host to Vanderbilt this Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET.  The Gators are still ranked #1 with a perfect 8-0 record and have already won the SEC East after pounding Georgia 41-17.  The Commodores, on the other hand, have won two games this year and are winless in conference play at 0-5.  The college football odds have Florida by 35 points with a total at 47.

What else can be said about the Florida?  Their offense is led by a Heisman Trophy winner, and is one of the few in the nation that is rushing for over 250 ypg.  They’re heavy favorites to repeat as National Champions, and they’ll continue to be ranked #1 until they’re tested in SEC championship game by either Alabama or LSU.  Theirs is a balance attack that’s put up 31 td’s for an average of 36 ppg, with Tim Tebow leading the way on the ground (551 yards, 8 td’s) and in the air (1323 yards, 10 td’s, 4 int’s).

This year the Gators have been flying to the football, as evidenced by their 2nd place ranking nationally in scoring defense (11 ppg), pass defense (138.8 ypg) and total defense (236.6 ppg.)  Only one team has played them within 3, and in doing so Arkansas also scored the most of any opponent, putting up 20 points on the scoreboard.  MLB Brandon Spikes (42 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 int) won’t play this week due to a 1 game suspension from Head Coach Urban, but the unit isn’t expected to miss a beat.  Click here for some great info on betting college football.

What’s worse than going to play in Gainesville?  Having to do so without your starting QB, as Larry Smith went down last week with a season ending hamstring injury.  Redshirt senior Mackenzi Adams has seen action in 3 games and thrown 37 balls for no td’s or int’s, but he’ll be the play caller this week for an offense that’s been averaging 18.2 ppg.  Luckily he’ll be able to rely on a strong ground game.  RB Warren Norman has put up 593 yards for 3 td’s and adds to the stable of backs that have helped Vandy to almost 180 rushing ypg and 12 of the 16 td’s that have been scored.

The Commodores have done a good job limiting opponets in points scored, gving up 22 per contest.  Last week however, they gave up 404 yards on the ground against run heavy Georgia Tech, and have been allowing almost 190 ypg in that category.  While they’re much better against the pass, Florida will be looking to establish the same dominant running game, and Vandy will have trouble stopping it.

Vanderbilt is overmatched on both sides of the ball this week, and won’t be able to secure their first conference win this week.  Florida will no doubt win by double digits, but their opponent hasn’t been shut out all year long, and have a great chance to cover the 35 point spread, despite playing in a hostile environment.  Sign up now for BookMaker’s 20% Deposit Bonus and start your wagering today.
