Florida vs. Alabama College Football Odds

Written December 5, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

On late Saturday afternoon the Georgia Dome will be the site of the most anticipated college football game this year. The SEC Championship will take place between Alabama and Florida for the second consecutive year. This is a match up of the #1 ranked Gators and the #2 ranked Crimson Tide. The winner will definitely head to the BCS Championship game, while the loser will be relegated to a lower BCS bowl. The stakes couldn’t possibly be any higher! The Florida Gators have had a great run the last few years, winning the title in both early 2009 and early 2007. The seniors, led by Tim Tebow are looking to win the BCS National Championship three times in four years, which would one of the most amazing feats seen in college football’s history. The offense is definitely led the by the veteran Tim Tebow. Tebow’s numbers are down just a bit from a year ago, but he has really turned it on of late. Tebow hasn’t thrown an interception in the last 5 games and his completion percentage for the season is now up to 66%. The running game at Florida is very good, and they have plenty of very good backs to put into the game whenever they are needed. Jeffrey Demps and Emmanuel Moody both average over 7 yards per carry and Chris Rainey averages 6.5 and has 4 touchdowns. Riley Cooper and Aaron Hernandez give Tebow two big targets that he can rely on at all times when they need to throw the football. The Gators defense has been even better than last year. This defense ranks first in the country in points allowed at just 9.8 and first in the country in passing yards allowed at 144 per game.

The Alabama Crimson Tide had a very tough win over Auburn last weekend, but they have made to the big game unscathed. They are certainly looking for some redemption from last year’s loss to Florida in this same game. Mark Ingram is the star in the backfield for Alabama. Ingram was a little banged up in their win last weekend, but he has improved through the week and should be ready for this huge game. On the year Ingram averages 6.5 yards per carry and has 221 attempts. Greg McElroy is the signal caller for the Tide, and he has matured nicely into a nice player for Alabama. McElroy has thrown just 4 interceptions and has done what Nick Saban wants him to do in managing a game. Julio Jones is the star at wide receiver and Javier Arenas is the special teams returner that can break one any time he touches it. The Crimson Tide defense has been extremely consistent this year. They are ranked second in points allowed to Florida and second in total yards per game and rushing yards per game. There is no weakness in the Alabama defense.

The college football betting lines have Florida as a 5.5 point favorite in this mammoth game. The total is set at 41 points. The odds makers clearly made the odds so low because the under is 8-2 in Florida’s last 10 and 5-1-1 in Alabama’s last 7 games. Florida has a stellar 21-8 record against the spread in their last 29 games, but Alabama is 5-1-1 against the spread in the last 7 meetings between these two powerhouses.

Most football predictions are pointing toward a Florida Gators victory and it is definitely hard to argue with that given their experience and leadership, but this one will be a very tight game and Nick Saban will have his team ready to play. I fully expect the turnover margin to play a major role in who wins this game.

My college football picks are now 20-6 on the season, hitting at an impressive 77% rate. This weekend I have two premium packages available, one a trio of sides plays and one a trio of totals. Get in on the action now and remember these packages are guaranteed.

Can’t wait for this game, I’m hoping Alabama wins and goes to the title game. But I think Florida is the better team right now.

Got something to say?
