    Default Friday Service Plays

    SPORTS ADVISORS

Golden State (0-1, 1-0 ATS) at Toronto (1-0 SU and ATS)

The Raptors opened the season with an impressive 95-84 upset victory over the Sixers on Wednesday, cashing as a five-point road underdog. Chris Bosh (27 points, 11 rebounds) led four Toronto players in double figures against Philadelphia.

The Warriors got 27 points from newcomer Corey Maggette and 26 from Stephen Jackson in Wednesday’s opener against the Hornets, but it wasn’t enough as Golden State fell 108-103, but covered as a seven-point home underdog. The Warriors have lost three in a row and seven of 10 dating to last year (2-8 ATS).

Golden State is on a 5-1 SU and ATS run against the Raptors, including a 106-100 win as a 6½-point underdog in their lone trip to Canada last year. The host is 6-2 ATS in the last eight series clashes, all as a favorite, and the SU winner has covered the spread in each of the last 10 head-to-head battles.

Despite Wednesday’s upset win, Toronto is still just 10-22 ATS in its last 33 games overall. The Raptors are on additional ATS slide of 0-6 against the Western Conference, 2-8 versus the Pacific Division, 1-7 after a SU win, 1-9 on Fridays and 5-17 when playing on one day of rest. Meanwhile, going back to last season, the Warriors are 1-4 ATS in their last five on the highway and 8-21 ATS in their last 29 when playing on one day of rest. On the bright side, Golden State is on positive pointspread runs of 6-2 on Fridays and 5-1 against the East.

The Warriors are in the midst of “over” streaks of 4-0 overall, 12-3-1 against the Eastern Conference and 5-1-1 on Fridays, but the under is 7-2 in their last nine on the road and 8-2-1 in their last 11 against the Atlantic Division. Also, the under is 4-0 in Toronto’s last four overall and 5-0-1 in its last six at the Air Canada Centre.

    ATS ADVANTAGE: GOLDEN STATE

Chicago (1-0 SU and ATS) at Boston (1-0, 0-1 ATS)

The Bulls head to Beantown to take on the defending NBA champs on the heels of Tuesday’s 108-95 season-opening rout of the Bucks, cashing as a six-point home favorite. Chicago, which has won and covered three in a row dating to the end of last season, spread the wealth around in the win over Milwaukee with six players scoring in double figures. That included rookie point guard Derrick Rose, who had 11 points, nine assists and four rebounds in his debut.

Boston raised its 17th championship banner to the rafters Tuesday, then needed to rally from a seven-point halftime deficit to top Cleveland 90-85. Paul Pierce (27 points) was one of five players to score in double digits for the Celtics, who failed to cover as a 6½-point home chalk, ending a 7-0 ATS run going back to last year’s Eastern Conference finals.

The Celtics swept a four-game season series from Chicago last year, winning all four games by double digits, with the average margin of victory being 18.3 points per game. Not only did Boston easily cover the number in all four contests, but it is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings. Prior to last year, Chicago had been on a 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS tear against the Celtics.

The SU winner is 10-0 ATS in the Bulls’ last 10 games overall and 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these teams.

Even though it has cashed in three straight games, Chicago is still in ATS slides of 7-21 against the Atlantic Division, 6-21 after a SU victory, 2-9 after a double-digit victory, 1-6 after a spread cover and 1-5 when playing on two days’ rest. Boston is on ATS runs of 15-6 at home and 6-2 when going on two days’ rest, but Doc Rivers’ club is 3-9 ATS in its last 12 versus the NBA Central.

The under is 6-2 in the Bulls’ last eight games overall, but the over is 13-4-2 in their last 19 on the highway, 10-3 in their last 13 on Friday and 7-2 in their last nine against the Atlantic Division. For the Celtics, the under is on runs of 4-1 against the Eastern Conference and 4-1 versus the Central Division. The under is also 6-2 in the last eight Boston-Chicago matchups, but four of the last five meetings in Boston have hurdled the total.

    ATS ADVANTAGE: BOSTON

San Antonio (0-1 SU and ATS) at Portland (0-1 SU and ATS)

The Spurs came up short in Wednesday’s season opener against the Suns, falling 103-98 as a 1½-point home favorite despite 32 points each from superstars Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. San Antonio has dropped three in a row and five of its last six going back to last spring’s Western Conference Finals series against the Lakers. However, Gregg Popovich’s squad is still 12-4 (9-7 ATS) in its last 16 regular-season contests.

Portland not only got humiliated in its opener – a 96-76 loss at the Lakers as an eight-point underdog – but it lost center Greg Oden to a foot injury early in the game. Oden, who didn’t score in 13 minutes in his NBA debut, is expected to miss at least two to four weeks. The Blazers shot a dismal 34.5 percent from the field against Los Angeles, while allowing the Lakers to make 46.8 percent of their attempts.

The Spurs enter tonight’s contest on a 12-game winning streak against Portland, and they’re 20-9 ATS in the last 29 battles. However, the Blazers went 2-1 ATS in last year’s three meetings, and the teams have alternated spread-covers in the last six head-to-head clashes. Finally, the host is on a 5-1 ATS roll in this rivalry.

San Antonio failed to cover in 10 of its final 13 road games last season (playoffs included) while also going 3-7 ATS in its last 10 against the Northwest Division. On the other hand, the Blazers are on positive pointspread streaks of 5-2 overall, 4-0 at home and 4-1 after a SU defeat.

The Spurs’ game against Phoenix on Wednesday easily eclipsed the posted total, ending a nine-game “under” streak going back to last year’s playoffs. The under is still on runs for San Antonio of 5-0 on the road, 6-1 on Fridays and 4-1 against the Northwest. Also, Portland sports under streaks of 4-1 overall, 12-4 on Fridays, 37-14 against Western Conference foes and 44-21-1 versus Southwest Division opponents.

    Marc Lawrence

    Play On: Miami Heat

The Heat make their home debut under new head coach Erik Spoelstra knowing they have dominated the Kings in this series, going 15-6 SU and 18-3 ATS in the last 21 games, including 10-1 ATS as a host. With the Kings in for a long season and having a road game at Orlando on deck tomorrow night, look for Miami to get Spoelstra his initial NBA win here tonight.

    Jimmy The Moose

Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Clippers
    Prediction: Over

Both team's opened the season by playing under the total but tonight they'll be involved in a high-scoring game. Denver has a very good offensive club with Iverson, Anthony and Martin in their starting 5 and expect all 3 to have a better game vs. a Clippers team that gave up 117 points in their opener. The Clippers led by Baron Davis now will score points tonight vs. a Nuggets team that isn't very good defensively. The team's have played over the total in 2 of their last 3 meetings. Play the over.

    Vegas Experts

New York Knicks at Philadelphia 76ers

The Knicks look like a team you may want to start taking Over on a regular basis following their 120-115 win over Miami on Wednesday. The number is really high for tonight's contest with Philly, but consider that New York was 19-4 to the Over last year when coming off a SU win. They were also 27-14 Over in road games. New HC Mike D'Antoni is putting his stamp on his new team. Lots of points again tonight!

    Play on: Over

    Jim Feist

    Take MIAMI HEAT

A lousy schedule to start the season for a young Sacramento team. In less than a year they've lost Mike Bibby and Ron Artest. The Kings started at Minnesota on Wednesday and didn't play any defense, allowing over 48% shooting in a 98-96 loss. And talk about a slow-footed frontcourt with Mikki Moore and Spencer Hawes. Center Brad Miller is serving a five-game suspension for violating the league's drug program and won't play here. Miami limps home after a loss at the Knicks, 120-115. This is a talented offensive team with Dwayne Wade, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem and rookie Mike Beasley. This is the home opener for the Heat while the visitors are a long way from home. Play Miami!

    Dave Cokin

    Take SAN ANTONIO SPURS

The Spurs opened on a down note losing at home to Phoenix. Opening night was even worse for Portland. The Blazers got clubbed by the Lakers and lost Greg Oden for at least a couple weeks in the process. San Antonio has absolutely owned this series, winning each of the last dozen meetings. The Spurs are vulnerable right now with Ginobili sidelined. But they still enjoy a matchup advantage against the Blazers, and it's rather obvious that Portland has not yet figured out a way to beat this opponent. With the number where it is, I have to side with San Antonio to get the money tonight.

    Tom Freese

    Chicago at Boston

Boston is 42-15 UNDER vs. a team that scored 100 or more points in their last game and they are 7-3 UNDER off an ATS loss. The Celtics are 4-1 UNDER vs. NBA Central teams and they are 6-2 UNDER their last 8 meetings with the Bulls. Chicago is 4-0 UNDER off a straight up win and they are 4-0 UNDER after allowing 100 or more points in their last game. The Bulls are 6-2 UNDER vs. winning teams and they are 5-0-1 UNDER their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning home record. PLAY ON 'UNDER'

    Craig Trapp

    Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics
    Play: Boston Celtics -9

This was actually one of Craig's Strongest plays for Friday but he wanted all to have a taste of his premium plays. The Celtics will torment the #1 pick Rose with there tenacious defense. Rose will learn why the Celtics won a championship this past year DEFENSE. Rondo will pick him left and right and make him wonder why he left Memphis. For Boston they won by 5 there first game beating Lebron and the CAVS. They won even though Garnett and Allen shot and play poorly on offense. But that just shows you how good this team is that there defense can win games for them. CHI might be much improved over last year but you will not see it in this game. SCORE BOS 97 - CHI 83

    double-dime bet704 PHI / 703 NYK Under 217.5 Bookmaker
    Analysis:
I believe this total is an over-reaction to New York's 120-115 win over Miami on Wednesday. That was a sloppily played game between two teams "going nowhere," as the teams combined to shoot 70 FTs and made 52. The Knicks shot 48.2 percent from the floor and I expect that Philadelphia, somewhat embarrassed by its play in a home-opening loss to the Raptors (95-84), will play much better tonight. Of course, I expect the 76ers to shoot better than their 34.5 percent against Toronto (5-of-20 from behind the three-point arc) but I still don't see this game hitting the 'heights' of this total. Are the Knicks really capable of running new coach Mike D?Antoni?s up-tempo offense? I'll need to see more that one game against the pathetic Heat to buy into that concept. Fabulous Friday Total on NYK/Phi 15* Under.

    Analysis:
Play on Toronto at 7:05 ET. Home opener for the Raptors as they come off an impressive 95-84 win in Philadelphia on Wednesday. Golden State looked better than we thought they would that same night hosting New Orleans, but that won't be the norm for the Warriors this year as their lack of a true team leader will hurt them all season. Soo too will their lack of a consistent inside threat. This is particularly true in going against what Toronto has to offer inside in Chris Bosh and Jermaine O'Neal. The duo combined for 34 points and 19 rebounds against the Sixers, and the most important thing is that O'Neal, who was acquired in the offseason, appears to be healthy. Golden State is using a point guard by committee right now and that won't get it done against the wildly underrated Jose Calderon. Warriors should be spent following an up-tempo 108-103 loss. For starters, they are just 10-22 ATS following a home game where both teams scored 100+ points. Now, they must make a cross-country flight all the way North of the Border. Stephen Jackson played 48 minutes in the opener, so he'll be tired. Al Harrington went just 5 fo 17 from the floor one day after being asked to be traded. Nellie's team is just a mess right now and is asking to get blown out. Toronto is 7-1 ATS after a road win in division play. Toronto is our NBA Non-Conference Game of the Month.

    triple-dime bet714 POR 1.5 (-110) Bodog vs 713 SAN
    Analysis:
The Portland Trailblazers landed into an absolutely terrible spot to start the 2008-09 season - playing on the road against what looks like the best team in the Western Conference by a mile (Los Angeles Lakers).

Portland fell way behind in that contest and was never in it - plus they lost rookie Greg Oden to injury, which simply added to the team's frustration. Let's not forget that the Blazers were a tremendous home team last year and didn't skip a beat without their 2007 top pick missing the entire year.

Which NBA team may resemble the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL this year.....you guessed it - the San Antonio Spurs. They look far from their dominant selves against Phoenix - allowing over 100 points at home. Last year - they were 0-4 ATS in this situation......plus....now they are a smallish road favorite against a Western Conference team.

The Spurs were a terrible 1-13 ATS when playing on the road against the West with the spread falling betweek +3 and -3.

Take the home dog as they re-establish themselves as a major player in the NBA.

    double-dime bet707 ORL -6.0 (-110) BetUS vs 708 MEM
    Analysis:
The Orlando Magic are incredible ATS when coming off a home loss, especially when heading out on the highway.

Orlando managed to hit just four three-point field goals in its loss to Atlanta just two days ago - ending a streak of 82 games with at least five field goals made from behind the arc.

That's a troublesome scenario for a Memphis team that shot 0-for-13 from beyond the arc in its opener against Houston.

When Memphis loses as an underdog - they also fail miserably ATS....Expect the Magic to bounce back in a big way tonight, as the middle will not be open for the Memphis Grizzlies due to the presence of center Dwight Howard.

    Fri, 10/31/08 - 7:05 PMLarry Ness | NBA Sides
    triple-dime bet702 TOR -7.5 (-110) Bodog vs 701 GSW
    Analysis:
The Warriors missed a great opportunity to beat one of the league's best teams (Hornets) on Wednesday. The Warriors 'exploded' out of the gates with a 34-point first quarter but couldn't hold the lead. Golden State was held to just 19 points in the 4th quarter as they let a one-point lead with 28 seconds left get away. Chris Paul had the go-ahead layup with 19.4 seconds to play and the Hornets went on to win, 108-103. Meanwhile, the Raptors debuted on Wednesday with an impressive 95-84 win at Philly, over a 76ers team which is expected to battle them in the Atlantic Division this year behind Boston. The Raptors can play some 'D' with Bosh healthy and playing alongside of Jermaine O'Neal, who was obtained from the Pacers this summer as part of a six-player trade. It showed the other night, as the Raptors held the 76ers to 34.5 percent from the floor, including 5-of-20 from three-point range. Three-point shooting is something the Raptors know a little about, as Kapono made 48.3 percent of his threes last year, Parker connected on 43.8 percent of his and Calderon (now the team's full-time PG with TJ Ford gone) made 42.9 percent of his threes. Toronto's win at Philly was impressive, as Bosh led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds and O'Neal, who looks healthy after playing in just 42 games last season due to a torn knee ligament, scored 17 points with eight rebounds. Calderon had 13 point with seven assists and the team made 10-of-16 from behind the three-point arc (so what else is new?). Toronto won by 11, despite the fact that Parker and Bargnani shot a combined 3-of-15. The Warriors saw Stephen Jackson score 26 points against the Hornets on Wednesday but he a was forced to play all 48 minutes (he's not young anymore). With Davis gone, Golden State's PG by committee doesn't figure to work against Calderon, who is a "star in the making." Besides Davis, the Warriors also lost Pietrus (a terrific defender on the perimeter) and Barnes (a quality role player up front). Forward Al Harrington publicly requested a trade on Tuesday complaining about his lack of playing time, but played on Wednesday (42 minutes worth, by the way) going 5-of-17 and finishing with 13 points. This could be a long year for the Warriors, while I expect it to be a very good year for the Raptors. NBA Game of the Month 20* Tor Raptors.
