Hi there. I agree with you on this forum being really reserved on just the free picks.

Anyways, for poker, sports betting, and black jack the base bankroll that a few books and sites recommend is $10,000, with savings set aside to live for one year with 0 income. So if your expenses are $1,000 then you need $12,000 of savings + $10,000 bankroll = $22,000.

Of course, there are millions of variations to this rule.

Where you should stop? depends on you. But if you are getting too aggressive and letting emotions take control over your betting, then you should take a break.

I use partybets and betfair so I use both types of odds. That doesn't really matter.

    Anyways, just my 2 cents.

Articles and descriptions of free picks by pros on this site improved my betting a lot. Read books, articles and take a shot at a few picks of your own.

    Good luck!

    Incoming "newbie questions"

    1. Dallas +8 ............... 3units

Is the +8 a point spread? And is 3units 30% of your bankroll?

    2.
    S-Hall -5.5...........1*

    What does the "1*" mean?

    3.
    10 DIME - GONZAGA BULLDOGS

    What is "10 DIME"?

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes +8 means the point spread. Handicappers rate their plays differently, some use stars, some units. In my mind 3 units means 3% of your bankroll. I wouldn't really get past 5% under any circumstances, let alone 30%.

Star rating. You kind of have to know what their usual ratings are. I used to put 1* by my free pick, but use 15* or 20* for my big plays to let people know I didn't put much stock in the free picks. Another quality guy on our site rates all games 1* though, so that wouldn't mean the same thing for him.

I'm assuming this is another rating question, but "dime" means $1,000 in gambling terms. My guess would be just a handicapper using an outrageous rating system.
