Fox to Coach Panthers in 2010

Written December 30, 2009 by Jason Lowry

The Carolina Panthers are making some noise to finish up the 2009 season, as they have upset the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants the last two weeks. The Panther’s recent success has changed the view in Carolina, and many believe this team is not far from making it back to the postseason. According to Tom Sorensen of the Charlotte Observer head coach John Fox and his staff will be back with the team next season.

It’s still unclear how long Fox will remain with the Panthers, as he has just one year left on his contract. The Panthers could choose to give the coach an extension this off-season, or they could wait and see how the team performs. Also, with the possible lockout in 2011, they might not want to invest too highly.

A big reason for the Panthers struggles this season was the inconsistent play of quarterback Jake Delhomme. It appears that Delhomme’s days are done in Carolina, as a new star is emerging right before our eyes in Matt Moore. In the Panthers last two wins Moore has thrown for six touchdown without a single interception.

Oddsmakers seem reluctant to put out NFL odds on the Panthers Saints game this Sunday, and its likely because its unclear just who will play for the Saints. Either way the Saints are coming off two disappointing losses, and the Panthers are red hot. Keep a close eye on this one, as the Saints have no chance if quarterback Drew Brees doesn’t play.
