Florida State vs Wisconsin: NCAA Tournament Predictions
Written March 17, 2009 by Jason Lowry
This Friday the No.5 seeded Florida State Seminoles will take on the No.12 seeded Wisconsin Badgers in the always dangerous 12 vs. 5 matchup. The game will take place in Boise, ID, and will be the last first round game to tip on Friday night. To get you going on the upcoming game, here is a look at each team and how they got the tournament, and my prediction on who I see winning this game.
No.5 Florida State Seminoles -3 ATS at Bookmaker.com. The Seminoles finished 4th in the ACC this season, but made a great run through the conference tournament before falling to Duke in the championship game. During that run the Seminoles beat one of the best teams in the country in North Carolina, and have to have a ton of confidence that they can make a run in this tournament. The Seminoles pose a tough matchup for any team, as they are one of the biggest teams in the country. The guy to watch out for is senior guard Toney Douglas, who averages a team best 21.3 points per game. The Seminoles can really play some great defense with the shot blockers they have inside, but if Douglas is scoring its going to be hard for the Seminoles to advance past the 1st round.
No.12 Wisconsin Badgers +3 ATS at Bookmaker.com. The Badgers have not had the season many expected them to have, as they dropped 6 straight games at one point this season, and it looked like the season was going to be a loss, but the Badgers got things going winning 7 of their final 10 regular season games, that included wins over Ohio State, Penn State, and Illinois. The Badgers got knocked out in the first round by Ohio State in the Big 10 tournament, and while this team doesn’t look like it poses much of a threat in the tournament, this is a school coached by one of the top coaches in the country in Bo Ryan, who always seems to have his team ready to go come tournament time. The Badgers will need a strong showing from both Marcus Landry and Trevon Hughes in this one, as both come in averaging right around 12 points per game.
My Prediction: Florida State Seminoles -3. I know its tempting to take the No.12 seeded Badgers in this one, just based on the success that the No.12 seed has had in the past, but I believe the Seminoles are just to good to lose to a middle of the pack team in the Big 10. I look for the Seminoles to win this one by close to 10 points if not more.
