George St-Pierre v. Matt Serra Predictions & Odds
In one of the most anticipated rematches in UFC history, George “Rush” St-Pierre will take on Matt “The Terror” Serra for the unification of the Welterweight Championship. After Serra shocked the world in the first bout between these two fighters, he won the welterweight title from St-Pierre. But after he was unable to defend his title against Matt Hughes, at UFC 79, St-Pierre stepped in and won the interim welterweight title. So this weekend at UFC 83 Serra will have his shot at proving the first fight wasn’t a fluke, and St-Pierre will be out for full out revenge against a guy who embarrassed him a little over a year ago. One intriguing factor for this fight is that the fight is taking place in Montreal, Canada, marking the first time the UFC has fought in Canada, and it just so happens to be the hometown of St-Pierre. Here is a look at both fighters and what they will bring to the table on Saturday April 19, and our prediction of who will come out victorious.
Matt Serra
Serra comes into the fight at 5′6 and a much more compact 170lbs than his opponent. Serra comes out of Long Island, New York and at the age of 33 is realistically still the welterweight champ. Serra comes in with an overall MMA record of 16-4-0, but he is only 6-4 while fighting in the UFC. He has yet to face anyone since beating St-Pierre in April of 2007. Serra is known for his ground game and the ability to use an onslaught of submission moves to force his opponents to tap out, but what he showed in his fight against St-Pierre is that you better not be sleeping as this guy has the power to knock you out with his fist as well. Even after beating St-Pierre the first go around, he is still the underdog this weekend, and we are convinced that he is ready to shock the world again.
George St-Pierre
St-Pierre comes in 4 inches taller at 5′10 and is a much younger 26 years of age. We have already mentioned that his originally from Montreal and will be fighting in front a crowd that is likely going to be completely behind the hometown guy. St-Pierre has an impressive 15-2-0 record in MMA, and is 9-2 in the very tough UFC. Unlike Serra St-Pierre has fought two times since the first meeting between these guys. He first scored a unanimous decision victory over Josh Koscheck at UFC 74, and then went on to to beat Matt Hughes via Submission. Matt Hughes was the only other fighter to beat St-Pierre and he will be out to take care of Serra and become the true Welterweight Champion once again. St-Pierre isn’t just a one-style fighter as he is one of the more athletic guys in the UFC. He would love to knock you out, but if need be he can use a submission move to take home the victory. If St-Pierre comes in like he did against Hughes earlier this year, Serra just might be in for a world of hurt when the first bell rings this weekend.

While we think these odds are a little far out there for this fight, but if you are looking to find out who is going to when this fight, then go with the much more dangerous St-Pierre. Where things could get interesting in this fight is when the fight moves to the ground. St-Pierre loves to send his opponent to the mat, but if he chooses to do so against Serra, he is moving the fight right into Serra’s wheelhouse. While we think St-Pierre will be just fine on the mat, we see this fight being one with the fists. We are predicting a St-Pierre knockout in round 2 of this five round fight.
