2010-11 Results:

Overall: 22-11 (Home 10-4 Road 7-5 Neutral 4-2 Post Season 0-2)
Big East: 10-8 tied for 8th
Conference Tournament: Lost in the second round of the Big East Conference tournament.
Postseason: Lost in the third round of the NCAA tournament.

Georgetown won 22 games last year and ended up losing to VCU in the second round of the NCAA tournament. John Thompson will have to deal with the departure of local products Austin Freeman and Chris Wright.

This will be the start of a new chapter in Georgetown basketball after averaging 22 wins a season the past four years with Freeman and Wright.

Georgetown ranked 8th in the Big East in scoring last year and eleventh in scoring defense. Not much is expected from the Hoyas this year with only two returning starters from last year. John Thompson will look for his team to play tougher inside this year and improve their overall defensive effort.  The Hoyas also need to do a better job on the boards. Hollis Thompson will be looked upon to provide the scoring lost by the departure of Freeman.

Key Losses

Georgetown will look to replace their top two scorers from last year in Freeman and Wright. Freeman averaged 17.6 points per game and was an excellent shooter. The Hoyas will also have to replace starting center Julian Vaughn.  Jerrelle Benimon and Vee Sanford, both key reserves, decided to transfer.

2011-12 Preview

Georgetown fans were disappointed the previous four years with only one NCAA Tournament win. This season expectations are low and a trip to the tournament should make Hoya fans happy. The Hoyas will begin the season at the Maui Invitational and will get an early chance to see if they where they stand against other potential tourney teams.

Backcourt

Jason Clark will shoulder the responsibility of leading the team now that Freeman and Wright are gone. He will look to lead a young team after being a secondary option the past two years.

Clark will be the team’s main scoring threat from the guard position while Market Starks will be the field general. Sparks didn’t see much playing time last year as a freshman but will look to play a key role for the Hoyas this year. Clark will likely be the teams backup point guard as well. Aaron Bowen a redshirt freshman and true freshman Jabril Trawick will look to earn playing time spelling Clark and Starks.

Frontcourt

John Thompson III will call on Nate Lubick to step up his game after serving as a role player last season. The Hoyas will need him to provide an inside scoring presence.

Henry Sims after a disappointing 2010-2011 seasons will look for a chance to shine. Moses Ayegba and Tyler Adams will look to play tough inside but lack much of a presence at the offensive end of the floor.

Freshman Mikael Hopkins and George Whittington will look to contribute off the beach. Hopkins runs the floor well and is an excellent shot blocker. Whittington is 6-8 and shoots the ball well.
