Georgetown at Temple

Thursday night No. 9 Georgetown (8-0) will get a big time test when they go on the road to take Temple (5-2). The Owls are 33-6 on their home court since the beginning of the 2007 season. Head coach Fran Dunphy will be looking for his 400th career win, giving his players extra motivation to beat the undefeated Hoyas. Temple has a good history against the Hoyas, going 21-14, but this is a very talented team that Georgetown sends out to the floor.
Georgetown is led by Big East Pre-season Player of the Year Austin Freeman. Freeman has that special ability to put his team on his back and carry them to a win. On the season Freeman is averaging 20 points while shooting 57% from the field. The supporting cast is pretty good as well. Guards Chris Wright does a great job of getting everyone involved, and junior guard Jason Clark is deadly from the three point range.
The Hoyas will have to play smart basketball if they are going to improve to 9-0 on the season, as the Owls are well known for their ability to get it done on the defensive side of the ball. If Georgetown is sloppy with the basketball. the Owls are going to be right in this game with a chance to win late. The Hoyas did just down then No. 8 Missouri on the road, so this team understands what its like to play a difficult game away from home.
Temple comes into the game off a nice win over Maryland, and it was defense that got it done in that game, as the Owls held the Terrapins to just 61 points. For a better idea of how good they are playing defensively, 61 points is the most any team has scored on them all season.Opponents are shooting just 37% against the Owls this season.
Temple does a good job of spreading the ball around on offense. Ramone Moore leads the team, averaging just over 12 points a game, but isn’t far ahead of their third leading scorer, Lavoy Allen, who comes in with a 11.4 average. Without a player like Freeman, who can take over the game, all of the Owls players have to come ready to play if Temple is going to walk away with their sixth win of the season.
Got something to say?
