Georgia at Oklahoma State Football Odds & Picks

Written September 4, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

georgia-oklahoma-state-preview-090409The Georgia Bulldogs will have their work cut out for them on Saturday as they face high powered Oklahoma State on the road. Georgia has lost star power at every offensive position starting with this past years #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft QB Matthew Stafford who threw for 3,459 passing yards and 25 TDs last season. They will also be without stud RB Knowshon Moreno who is now running the ball on Sundays for the Denver Broncos. Moreno rushed for 1,400 yards and 14 rushing TDs last season.  Holy smokes, you lose you starting #1 draft pick quarterback, your RB who goes #13 overall and the number one and two wide receivers on your depth chart, if that is not too much to overcome, then I don’t know what is. Senior quarterback Joe Cox takes over with sophomore running back Richard Samuel trying to fill Moreno’s shoes. With the exception of Shaun Chapas who is a senior (has no experience worth noting) all of their receivers will be freshman or sophomores. On the defensive end they lose James Laurinaitis who was the heart and soul of that unit. Malcolm Jenkins, their star corner back is in the NFL now also. So, as you can see this team is as familiar as a day camp orientation. They face a Big 12 powerhouse on the road in their opener. The odds are they will have a very tough time slowing down the Cowboys, but head coach Mark Richt is one of the best coaches in NCAAF, he will need to pump up these boys a little extra tonight.  Early college football odds for Saturday place Oklahoma State -4.5 at home against Georgia with the total set for 61 points.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys return all their key offensive starters with the exception of Brandon Pettigrew who went in the first round of this summer’s NFL Draft. They will though have now senior quarterback Zac Robinson back behind center and ready to improve on a stellar last season when he threw for 3,064 yards and 25 TDs while rushing for 562 yards and 8 rushing TDs, this guy is the real deal. Kendall Hunter is back starting at the running back position after an eye popping sophomore season rushing for 1,555 yards and 16TDs. Now, onto the big fish of this team, The Cowboys best WR and perhaps then Nations #1 wide out as well is Dez Bryant. Last season Bryant tortured corner backs catching 87 passes for 1,480 yards and 19 TDs. With this three headed monster back and ready to pounce, there is a linebacker named Andre Sexton who is just as much a star as these three offensive monsters. Oklahoma State returns seven key starters overall and they will go up against a depleted Bulldogs offense. Also keep an eye on senior corner back Perrish Cox who is a versatile talent that covers wide outs and is a punt return threat at all times. Coach Mike Gundy is very excited about his team’s chances of winning big games this season after they were a big disappointment in last year’s bowl game losing to Oregon 42-31. Notes below.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: Oklahoma State is ranked 11th while Georgia despite their offensive losses are 13th in the coaches poll. Oklahoma State is 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games. Georgia is 3-7 in their last 10 games ATS and those numbers are with last year’s firepower. This game is not a hard one to pick apart. Georgia’s offense will look spotty at best while the Cowboys have one of the best offensive attacks in the nation.  Dez Bryant will go wild and look for LB Andre Sexton to prove why he is a future first round NFL selection. Picks below.
