Overall: 13-18 (10-6 H, 1-10 A, 2-2 N)
ACC: 5-11 (4-4 H, 1-7 A)
Conference Tournament: 0-1, lost in 1st round
Postseason: None

The 11-year Paul Hewitt era ended with a disappointment, as the Yellow Jacks won just 13 games and finished their fourth losing season out of the last five. Highlights were a 20-point win over North Carolina, a 5-1 start to the season and reaching the finals of the Legends Classic against Syracuse (losing by two).

The program was ready to move in a new direction. After having just two head coaches in 30 years, Tech let go of its head coach following the season and found an up-and-comer in Brian Gregory to take the helm for 2011-12.

2011-12 Preview

Brian Gregory comes to Georgia Tech after a successful eight-year run as head coach at Dayton, where he led the Flyers to 172 wins, two NCAA tournaments and three NITs, winning the NIT title in 2010. While he doesn’t have much starting experience coming back this year, he does have some experience to work with, as 11 players on the roster have Division I experience.

Backcourt

This is where most of the experience and the lion’s share of the roster’s talent is located. This group had some depth and experience that should prove to be a strength this year.

Glen Rice Jr. is the top returning scorer and rebounder (12.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg), second overall in both categories. He was third on the team in blocks (12) and third in steals (46).

Mfon Udofia is the second-highest returning scorer, having posted 6.7 points per game. He was fourth on the team in steals.

Jason Morris averaged 6.0 points and 2.2 rebounds over 18 minutes per game. He was the team’s best 3-point shooter at 40 percent.

Nick Foreman saw about four minutes of action in 22 games last year, carding nine offensive rebounds and six assists with just three turnovers.

Pierre Jordan joined the program this year after playing three years at Florida State, tallying 202 minutes in 39 games. He is working on his graduate degree while at Georgia Tech, and will likely compete for major minutes.

Brandon Reed sat out last year after transferring from Arkansas State, where he was Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year during his one season.

Frontcourt

Up front there is some experience, but not many bodies. If any of these three becomes foul-prone, freshman Julian Royal may be in the mix for playing time. But this is a group that has significant experience, which should bode well for the Yellow Jackets this year.

Daniel Miller started all 31 games, leading the team in blocked shots (67) and was third in rebounding (5.0 pg) while playing 26 minutes per contest and shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor. He averaged 4.4 points per game.

Kammeon Holsey was a spot starter, playing about 14 minutes per game and shooting 49 percent from the floor, averaging 3.4 points and 2.7 boards per game.

Nate Hicks may have played less than 10 minutes per game in 24 contests, he shot nearly 57 percent from the floor and finished third on the team in blocks (17).
