Georgia Tech at Clemson Football Betting Odds

Written October 15, 2008 by Jay Todd

Tommy Bowden was fired early this week, but is that really a reason for the college football odds makers to have Georgia Tech a favorite on the road at Clemson? (Bookmaker currently lists this game at Georgia Tech -2 over Clemson) Let’s be honest here, Clemson is clearly the better team in this game, and yet Georgia Tech is a favorite in Death Valley. This just doesn’t make any sense. Two of their wins were against non division one teams and their best win is against an average Boston College team.

Look for Clemson to come out hungry and ready to prove that they are still a top football team. Clemson has had some tough losses, but Alabama is the now #2 in the country and playing at Wake Forest is never easy. Clemson knows that if they can win out they may still have a shot at playing for the ACC title.

The start of the Willy Korn era will finally begin Saturday in Death Valley. Korn, who was a one of the nation’s best high school quarterbacks, will get his chance to show what he can do. He hasn’t seen any significant or meaningful playing time, but look for this kid to be focused and confident in his play. Korn is a great athlete, who can make all the throws and scramble when needed. Look for Korn to shine in his first start.

There is no doubt that running backs CJ Spiller and James Davis will get plenty of chances to make big plays against Georgia Tech. Davis and Spiller both average around six yards per carry and have combined for 11 touchdowns this season. Look for both to get around 12 to 15 touches in this game, and that should be more than enough for them to make big plays. Georgia Tech is giving up over 100 yards on the ground per game. Spiller and Davis will both have big games.

Georgia Tech has had early success running their option-style offense. However, the one solid defense they played, Virginia Tech, they only scored 17 points in a losing effort. The Yellow Jacket offense is attempting just over 10 passes per game. Clemson’s defense is way too fast and athletic to have an option offense beat them. Look for Clemson’s stifling D to be too much for Nesbitt and company. Jay Todd is once again offering his free football picks to us this week, and he says to take Clemson +2.5 over Georgia Tech.
