Georgia Tech vs Miami Football Odds & Betting Lines

Written September 16, 2009 by Hector Garza

georgia-tech-miami-odds-091609The #14 ranked Yellow Jackets are looking to burn down the house as they take on the #20 ranked Hurricanes tomorrow at 7:30 EDT. This ACC matchup features two undefeated teams, and the winner will no doubt be in contention for the conference championship. The college football lines for this game has Miami favored by 5.5 points with the over/under at 54.

Georgia Tech displayed their offensive explosiveness last week by jumping out to a 24 point lead against a gritty Clemson defense. The offensive line has yet to give up a sack this season. QB Josh Nesbitt has the option game running on all cylinders with star RB’s Jonathan Dwyer and Anthony Allen. If their offense can repeat the 472 yards they had last year on the ground against Miami, Nesbitt’s poor passing statistics (9 of 25, 1 td, 2 interceptions) may not even come into play.  Looking to do some college football betting this season?  Look no further than BetUS.  For a limited time, sign up for a new account and deposit $500 or more, and they will automatically add another $500 to your account!

While the offense was clicking, last week the defense let a 24 point lead slip away and almost lost the game. The Yellow Jackets are looking for more production out of the rest of the d-line. DE Derrick Morgan has been the only standout, living up to his pre season hype, by accumulating 5 sacks in just two games. They’ll be looking to disrupt Miami QB Jacoby Harris by blitzing and bringing pressure.

Miami is coming off one of their biggest wins after upsetting #18 Florida State last week in enemy territory. New offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple unleashed the air attack, with QB Jacoby Harris going 21 of 34 for 386 yards and two touchdowns. Even more impressive is the diversity of the passing game, as evidenced by the eight different receivers that pulled in receptions. Look for more of the same against a GT defense that gave up 261 yards in the air against Clemson.

The ground game will be the focal point of the Hurricane defense, and they’ll be looking to build on their success from last week when they gave up only 110 yards on the ground. They posted 7 tackles for a loss last week, and their ability to repeat that performance will be crucial against a run heavy Yellow Jackets offense. While Miami gave up just shy of 300 yards in the air, the secondary won’t be as threatened by a GT offense that only completed 4 passes last week. Turnovers will be a battle that the defense hopes to win against a GT team that fumbled five times in their opener. QB Josh Nesbitt has also shown his vulnerability in throwing 2 interceptions last week against Clemson.

If this game comes down to rest, an important note is that Georgia Tech will be playing their 3rd game in 13 days, while the Hurricanes have had ten days to rest up and prepare. The Yellow Jackets have won the last 4 meetings between the two teams and lead the overall series 10-4. They will be tested as they play on Miami’s home turf against a team that resembles the dominant ones of years past.
