Georgia Tech at North Carolina College Football Picks
Written November 6, 2008 by Jack Jones

It should be an ACC battle this weekend in Chapel Hill when the No. 22 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head into town to battle the No. 19 North Carolina Tar Heels. Georgia Tech has won five of their last six games to move to 7-2 overall and have some momentum heading into this weekend after a 31-28 win over Florida State a week ago. North Carolina has won four of their last five games to go to 6-2 for the season and are coming off a bye week that followed a 45-24 beating of Boston College. The odds on this game show North Carolina as a 4-point favorite with the total at 44.
Paul Johnson is in his first year of being the head coach at Georgia Tech and he has brought with him his wishbone offense. The team moves the ball almost exclusively through the rush and are picking up 5 ypc and 242.3 ypg on the ground even though opponents consistently stack the box. Quarterback Josh Nesbitt has ran for 436 yards and six touchdowns while throwing for only 518 yards and two touchdowns. He does just enough with his arm to keep the opponents in check, and allows running back Jonathan Dwyer to put up big numbers. So far he has 899 yards and seven scores while averaging 6.5 yards per attempt.
The Yellow Jackets are doing a pretty good job on defense too, allowing just 14.8 ppg and giving up just 284.7 ypg. The do a good job against both the run and the pass, allowing just 3.3 ypc and 8.8 yards per pass completion. The team has done a good job of taking the ball away too, with 15 interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries. A lot of that has to do with how well Georgia Tech has gotten to the quarterback, racking up 26 sacks so far. Georgia Tech is currently +4 at BetUS, where you can get up to 145% in signup bonuses on your initial deposit.
North Carolina’s offense is scoring 31.1 ppg this year and has split the scoring evenly with 13 rushing touchdowns and 12 via the pass. The rushing attack hasn’t been all that potent though, with just 3.6 yards per carry, but the 13.8 yards per pass completion has made up for those short comings. Cam Sexton has done a good job under center in throwing for 964 yards and six touchdowns while only being intercepted three times. His top target is Hakeem Nicks, who has 47 grabs for 782 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Tar Heel defense is allowing only 19.9 ypg and are yielding 340 total ypg. Against the rush North Carolina is giving up just 3.4 yards per carry, with the pass defense allowing 9.8 yards per completion. Even though that number might sound a little high the Tar Heels are aggressive in trying for big plays, which has paid off with their 17 interceptions.
