Georgia Tech vs. Clemson College Football Betting Lines

Written December 4, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

The ACC Championship game comes down to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Clemson Tigers. One of these teams will move into a BCS game, while the other will almost definitely miss a BCS game and go to a lower bowl game. These two teams played once already this season, with Georgia Tech prevailing 30-27 in a terrific game, so expect more great football in this one as the teams fight for a BCS berth. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were beaten by their rival the Georgia Bulldogs last weekend, but they have still had a very successful season. Paul Johnson’s option offense has worked brilliantly for the Yellow Jackets and they have been like a machine running the football this year. Josh Nesbitt is the signal caller and he is definitely a run first quarterback, who possesses nice skills on knowing when to pitch or when to keep the football. Nesbitt isn’t a very good passer, but he really hasn’t had to be. Jonathan Dwyer is a terrific running back who averages 6.3 yards per carry and has 12 touchdowns on the year. Nesbitt has one main receiving target in DeMaryius Thomas, who has caught 7 of Nesbitt’s 9 touchdown passes. While the offense has been brilliant the defense isn’t always that great. The defense is allowing 24.1 points per game and has given up 30 or more points five times this season.

The Clemson Tigers are led by their Heisman candidate C.J. Spiller. Spiller does a little of everything for them, including running the ball very effectively and serving as a very dangerous special teams returner. Spiller had a little bit of a slow start, but he has played great of late and averages 5.0 yards per carry on the season. Andre Ellington is a very talented sophomore who spells Spiller at the tailback spot and averages 6.9 yards per rush this season. Kyle Parker is the quarterback and he was a question mark at the beginning of the year, but he has developed pretty well throughout the season. In his last 4 games he has thrown 9 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions. Jacoby Ford is the big play receiver, but teams cannot forget about Spiller who is also a nice receiving threat out of the backfield. The Tigers defense has been pretty stout this year. The Tigers allow only 304 total yards per game and 19.5 points per game.

The college football odds for this championship weekend show this game as dead even on the spread, with no favorite at all evident. The posted total set for this game is 55 points. When making football predictions this weekend remember that Georgia Tech is 7-2 against the spread in their last 9, but Clemson is also 5-2 against the spread in their last 7.

This game will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, so there is no home field advantage in this one. Their previous meeting was a wild game, with Tech holding a big lead before blowing it and then coming back to win at the end. Expect both teams to establish a running game in this one, with Georgia Tech running the option and Clemson feeding C.J. Spiller. This should be a fun ACC title game, and I expect it to go down to the wire. To see my best bet for this particular game, check out my premium packages, which are very affordable and are guaranteed.
