Georgia vs. Florida College Football Odds

Written October 26, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

They call it the world’s largest outdoor cocktail party and the Georgia and Florida preview has always produced plenty of drama as well as hard hitting. This year the Georgia Bulldogs are having a bit of a down season, but you know they’ll be ready to play this weekend against one of their rivals. There is some clear animosity between these two teams and between the coaches of these two teams. Florida needs this win to keep their drive for another title alive, Georgia needs this win to get their season going back in the right direction.

The Georgia Bulldogs lost a whole lot of offensive firepower to the NFL draft this past year when both Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno went pro, leaving them with a new quarterback and running back. The offense and the defense of Georgia have been quite inconsistent this year. Joe Cox is the signal caller for the Bulldogs and he has done well of late moving the football, but he has turned the ball over too often. Georgia has a great wide receiver in AJ Green, who already has 6 touchdown receptions on the season. The running game hasn’t been very helpful so far, but they do have some young talent at the tailback position. The defense has been disappointing overall, giving up more than 40 points three times already this season. Allowing 28 points per game in the SEC just will not get it done, so the defense is going to have to step up. The Florida Gators continue on as the #1 team in the nation and without a blemish on their record, but the last couple games have raised some questions about the Gators. The 29-19 win over Mississippi State and the 23-20 win over Arkansas simply haven’t looked like the Gator team we have been accustomed to seeing. What is going on at Florida? Well they have time to get things right and they probably will, but it seems the offense isn’t quite as dynamic as it has been in the past couple of years. The Gators miss Percy Harvin’s play making ability and the offensive line hasn’t played very well lately. Tim Tebow is still a great leader and this offense will be fine in the long run, but right now it isn’t ticking quite right. The defense has been the strong suit of the team so far this year, allowing just 10 points per game and just 230 yards of total offense per game.

This game will take place in Jacksonville Florida as it always does. The Florida Gators are 16 point favorites in the rivalry this season according to the latest NCAA football lines. Georgia is 4-12 against the spread in their last 16 games, while Florida is 20-7 against the spread in their last 27 games. Want some high quality NCAA football predictions? Look no farther than these college football picks from the experts.

Look for Tim Tebow and the Gators to come out and prove a point Saturday. The Georgia defense is vulnerable and Florida should be extremely prepared for this match up. Florida’s defense will cause some turnovers and this one could get ugly. I think Florida covers the 16 points in this one.
