Georgia Tech at Wake Forest
Written by Steve Janus
This Saturday the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, as both teams look to improve to 2-1 in conference play. The Demon Deacons were completely dominated last week at Florida State, as they were shutout by the Seminoles 31-0. Georgia Tech had no answer for the NC State offense last week, as they fell 45-28 at home. The Yellow Jackets have dominated this series, winning 21 of the 29 meetings between these two schools. If you are looking to make a bet on the game this weekend, the current college football odds have the Yellow Jackets favored by 9.5 points over the Demon Deacons. on the road.
Georgia Tech (2-2, 1-1 ACC): The Yellow Jackets struggled to get the offense going last week, and the defense had no answer for the NC State offense in a blowout loss at home. The running game still produced 247 yards, but by the time the offense got things going it was too late. The defense gave up 527 yards, including 368 yards passing to Wolfpack quarterback Russell Wilson.
Quarterback Joshua Nesbit tied his season high with 116 passing yards and led the Yellow Jackets with 95 rushing yards on 19 carries. It was just the second time this season that Nesbit was held under 100 yards rushing. Nesbit and the offense should have a much easier time moving the football this weekend against the Demon Deacons, as they come into the game giving up 40 points a game and just under 179 rushing yards a game.
Wake Forest (2-2, 1-1 ACC): It has not been pretty for the Demon Deacons the past two weeks, as they have been outscored 99 to 24 in two big losses to Stanford and Florida State. Last week against the Seminoles the Demon Deacons managed were awful on the offensive side of the ball, as they managed just 185 yards of total offense and managed just 12 first downs the entire game. The Demon Deacons should be able to manage a little more on offense this week, but with the defense playing as bad as they have, they are going to have a hard time winning games.
Despite the fact that the Demon Deacons were down the entire game, they attempted just 17 passes for 82 yards. If that is all they are going to throw the ball when they are losing, this team has no chance of coming back against good teams. Wake Forest ran the ball 42 times against he Seminoles for just 102 yards, that’s a 2.5 average per attempt. A lot of things have to change fast for the Demon Deacons.
Looking at the Odds: With the way the Yellow Jackets can run the football and control the clock, I think you have to put your money on Georgia Tech -9.5, as I think they are going to dominate this game from start to finish. I don’t think the Demon Deacons will get shutout this week, but there is no way they score enough to win this game. My final score prediction is Georgia Tech 44, Wake Forest 26.
Got something to say?
